image right now, you can see this is tha line of thunderstorms. we still a severe thunderstorm warning. this includes parts of the panhandle o west virginia and frederick county in virginia until 5 bel of the counties here in pink are going to under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00. this includes areas like winchester, martinsburg, leesburg and back through parts of frederick county. all of frederick county, maryland, loudoun and fauquier counties are going to be under th severe thunderstorm watch until sock p.m. tonight. we're tracking potential for very heavy rainfall and on top of that flood warnings continuing for parts of the d.c. metro area through at least the evening ho y. >> thank, amelia. >> now to the breaking news out of alexandria this afternoon. paul manafort the man who once chaired donald trump's presidential campaign, is now a convicted felon. within the past hour the jury announced guilty verdicts 8 of the 18 felony cnts against

manafort. those charges are related to bank fraud, tax fraud and failin a to reportank account. the judge dlaring a mistrial in the other 10 charges. those felony c cntsld carry 30 years. nbc's justice correspondent pets willia has been following this case for us, and h has a look at what's coming next. >> the government willsk the judge and the jury to let them take some money, ill-gotten gains to usehe old phrase, they will seek forfeiture on one of his bank accounts in the fraud. that has to happen. these counts all had to do with paul manafort's actionsvo ining his lobbying for ukraine, not his work for the trump campaign. however, on one of the counts, the bank fraud count against the bank of california and the -- and the citizens bank. in both of those cases he applied f the loans in 2016, and so of the government's

deltils in the federal g plea entered by michael cohen, the man capped psident trump's fixer and attorney. a man who said he'd take a bullet for president trump. he's entered a guilty plea on financial crimes and one count of causing an illegal gain contribution. the southern district of newea york, a based on the crowd assembling, and the number of tcrophones, a press conference is about begin. he was released on half a million in bail. he paid stormy daniels in a federallection and didn't mention president trump's name. you're looking at footage ofco michael n leaving the courthouse a few minutes ago. he's been whisked away. don't expect to hear from him in front of the microphones but perhaps prosecutors from the southern district ofr new york perhaps mr. cohen's attorney who has put out a statement or is expecting to put out statement sometime later this evening. michael cohen pleading guilty to ght federal criminal charges. he's been released and

near the suitland parkway. this is what iwas like woodland road all the way across the roadway. you see the waterway. it flooded its banks and made a huge mess here. there were a number of vehicles that had to be resfed out standing water. take a look at what it looked like here just a little while ago. this is video from the prince george's county fire department. this was not the only area that had flashflooding. this is the area that ritchie a marlboro hads well and several vehicles had to bef taken out o rushing water and some of those vehicles occupied by people that had to be a rescu well. same thing happened here. there was a rescue that happened here and just off of suitland road. his store ended up being flooded and so was the roadway. >>hat happened? they had to come get you? >> and the thing to remember here is turn around, don't

drown. don't matter what kind of vehicle you have. n't try to drive through it. you can easily be swept away. with flash flooding, as quickly as theater rises it goes right back down again. luckily no injuries reporting. reporting in morningside, tracee wilkins, news 4. >> hold on, folks. moreng up out there. amelia tells us they are coming from the west and south again. >> tracking is thunderstorms and some from the west thunderstorms coming up from the south, and we actually have a new sere thunderstorm warning until 6:00 p.m. this is more morgan and berkeley countiesn west virginia and washington county and maryland. there's aer s thunderstorm warning right now. a lot of heavy rainfall issued for the potential of strong gusty winds up to 60 miles now where that could bring down some trees. this thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast and not all that fastoverall at about 25 miles an hour, so here's impact timesnd with you moving towards clear spring at 5:40. moving towards hagertown at 6 sack and moving towards

waynesboro right around 6:25, so we're keeping a very close eye on this line of thunderstorms out to the west and when i talk about activity moving up to the south, notice this activity leaving richmond and towards the fredericksburg area. this is set to con to impact parts of southern maryland through the evening hours and then this line backo heree west likely impacting parts of northern virginia and western maryland during the evening hours. we might see that famous d.c. split happen here in the metro area tonight withhese thunderstorms. but everybody in pink is under r severe thunder watch. this is going to go until sock this eke. ere's only frederick and loudoun and fauquiers count and panhandle of west virginia and winroester andthe heavier rain earlier today and still tracking flood warnings for the metro area a parts of southern maryland back into parts of northern virginia and e in fau county through at least the evening hours. at least 8:00 p.m. if not later. 6:00 p.m. still noticing that line generally back to the west.

we have some breaking developments in the case of the missing iowa student mollie tibbetts. details from a news conference still going on. >> reporter: we're just getting this latest twist in this case. police have just announced that they have made an, arre and the man they have now is 24-year-old christian rivera. police say that he was one of thepl last p to see mollie tibbetts, and new he's charged with her murde tibbets was last seen on july 18th jogging i her hometown of brook lyn brooklyn, iowa. ever sin then investigators

a severe thunderstorm watch at sock p.m. -- at 10:00 p.m. severe thunderstorm warnings are up to the west of hagerstown. that's going to go until this evening. those are heading to the northeast. they will be in hagerstown here shortly and the next hour or so. flooding issues around the d.c. metro area earlier. these are still up from the heavy rain this aftnoon until 00 p.m. and now we're watching more thunderstorms south of fredericksburg really cometo ther and organize here so this is something we're watching through the evening after 6:00 p.m.e' i think see a better chance for strong to potentially severe storms move in and the highest threat could be flooding issues and high winds. amelia has a closer look at this coming up. >> sheena, thanks so much. back to the breaking the news rocking the white house th new york. the president's former fixer and personal attorney has reached plea deal including a charge of ating campaign finance laws.

our scott macfarlane working the story frothe live sk. >> reporter: yeah, jim, an absolute torrent of breaking news coming in. wel try to navigate our way through it. guilty plea just entered by michael cohen in new york city thatre implicates thedent, according to nbc news reporters who were in the courtroom and according to the plea agreement that we're reading through right now. he's pled guilty to eight federal charges, mostly financial charges, bank fraud, u tax fr but he's also pleaded to a o charge caution an illegal campaign contribution, and t accordingo the plea agreement and statements made in court today mr. cohen has alluded to a federal candidate directing him to make a payment, a paynt of $150,000 for the principal purpose of influencing an election. he didn't say president trump's name, but a clear aleutian to president trump when he says a candalate for fed office in

>> he works to pay money tonc si two women who had information he believed to be th detrimental t 2016 campaign and to the candidate and the campaign. addition, mr. cohen sought eimbursement for that money by submitting invoices to the ndidate's company which were untrue and false. they indicated that the reimbursement was for services rendered for the year 2017 when in fact those invoices were a sham. he provided no legal services for the year 2017 and it was simply a means to obtain reimbursement for the unlawful campaign contribution. >> speaking on federal plaza in manhattan the deputy u.s. attorney for the southern district of new york, the office prosecuting the cohen case. that's not a special counsel robert mueller case. d bond, cohen has pos half a million dollars. he is released.

and their housekeeper found dead, murdered inside their burning home, and in the past week several motions have bee filed, giving us a look at just defend lawyers plan to the man who is accused of those brutalscrimes. >> n4's chris gordon has been going through that court paperwork today. >> reporter: defense lawyers will try to discredit some of the d.c. police officers who have been investigating the urders of family and their housekeeper in may of 2015. deron windt is charged with murdering the savopolous family as wel as their housekeeper. the man allegedly held the family captive and set the nsion on fire. a motion was filedor materials prosecutors may have involved in investigating mr. windt's case have been subject t

disciplinary proceedings, have credibility issues or otherwise have bee accused of engaging in some form of misconduct. the defense team does not name the officer or specify at, if any, misconduct may have been involved. prosecutors filed to get a protective order limiting the use of interl investigative information involving witnesses in this case. the restricons will allow prosecutors to share the information with the defense while procting the legitimate private interest of law enforcement sources. the matter will be decided at a court hearing this friday. earlier this month the defense team was granted permission tode use ee they contend proves that someone other than deron windt committed these murders, but they have not revealed wha that evidence is. the trial in the mansion murders case will begin on september 5th in d.c. superior court. that's the latest from the jim and wendy, back to you.
