effects of lane as you saw there for days now. when we talk abo hurricanes, we break them up into four quadrants. this i the stormdirection. let's s it's movering ing up tos the north. the ximum hurricane impact. the front left quadrant will bring the storm surge and that's what parts of t islands are dealing with right now. theai biggest impact fromand wind, as well as storm surge flooding and in the back right quadrant, significant wind. as it t mak turn towards the west, that's what part of the islands are dealing with. the back left quadrant has the lowest impact and that ishe only quadrant not impacting the state of hawaii. cong up in 15 minutes. >> you got it, amelia. thanks fthat. by the way, a lot of folks talking and sneezing about allergies. you have the low down on that. we'll send it back to you in a little bit. meantime, tributes are pouring in for john mccain this

afternoo earlier today, mccain's family announced the arizonaenator s discontinued his medical treatment for brain cancer. in a statemen his wife said, i love my husband with all my heart. god bless eryone who was here for my husband along this journey. mccain was diagnosed with the aggressive brain cancer last summer and has been away from the capitol since december. back close to home a man maryland is getting ready to go to trial for the c bdoded dnd calculated murder of his pregnant girlfri a beloved high schoolteacher. she was found in a shallow grave damascus last year. police tell us her boyfriend shot her ind the head then buried her body. megan fitzgerald has the unusual request today from prosecutors during a court hearing. >> reporter: it has been nearly a year since laurel was murdered. her body found in a field in

damascus. we watched asie her boy stood next to her parents pleading for her return. but hours later, he was charged with her murder. now, in less than two weeks, this case will go totrial, but before it does, the state's attorney from montgomery county and the defense attorney were back in court arguing if certain evidence will be shown during the trial. >> we have agreed we would not introduce sonogram pictures of her child during the course of the >>trial. eporter: the second issue discussed in court was whether jurors would be taken to the location where her body was found. the defense argued it would orlimit the ability the public to walk the trial, but the prosecution argued that it is absolutely necessary. >> the unique nature of the topography and the land would be relerant to issues of identification of her killer, as well as issues of for

meditation. >> reporter: he took wallen t the open field in damascus the day before she was murdered. wallen took a picture of the location and sent it to her sister. it was a photo that eventually helped police find her body because the next d prosecutors say he returned to the same area to kill wallen. the judge called the idea a logistical migh logistical nightmare and said it is very unlikely he will allow jurors to travel to the last location where laura waen was last seen alive. now, the judge said he will sdecide if ae visit is necessary for jurors. when the trial gets under way, it is expected to start on september 4th. back to you. >> those poor parene to relive it all over again. megan, thanks so much. we are less than twoeeks away from the start of the d.c. mansionurder trial. went is accused of killing three members of a family and a

housekeeper in 2015. a pretrial where prosecutors and the defense argued over what evidence will be allowed. prosecutors are zeroing in on he suspect's facebook activity. during the19-long saga when thew familyas tied up, tortured and later kill a lull in his posting and messaging which they think is significant. the former head of the centses for disea control and prrrention has been ated and accused of groping a woman in new york. tom freeden was taken into custody in brooklyn. he was the director of the cdc from 2009 up until last year. he is accused of grabbing woman inappropriately at his apartment last year. he isharged with sex abuse and harassment. in a statement, he denied the charges. well, we'ren counting d the preseason game number three. the closest thing to a regular seasone game you're going to in this preseason. >> that's right. long-time coming.

loves you. >> yeah, i guess. thatas broken. we'll deal with some humidity coming up and she'll also talk about ragweed. if you're scratching or sneezing, a lot of people in our newsroom are in the last couple days. major safety concerns along usy stretch of road in montgomery county. a 41-year-old man was killed when a car plowe into him. this happened in wheaton and it's the second fatal pedestrian crash in that same area just this week. news 4 nicole jacobs there live now with the latest. nicole? >> leon, the concerns are nothing new and, unfortunately, theangers aren't either. the victim was not in the crosswalk. montgomeryounty police have been trying to combat this issue for months now, if not they say at some point everyone has to do their part. before dawn friday morning, the

flashing lights were all the indications. >> i heard the sirens and everything, i just didn't knowt what was. >> reporter: a pedestrian hit and killed here at the reedie drive and georgia avenue. >> it's bad. it's sad. >> reporter: shoes about and the hurearo. he died at the scene. a crash still under investigation and one of fouroun they in the last two weeks. >> it tells us we have a huge and the problem is everybody has to do their part to prevent these crashes fromoccurring. >> reporter: captain thomas runs the traffic division of montgomery county. he says in allour cases the pedestrians were not in the crosswalk. >> a car weighing 3,000 pounds going 30 miles an hour has way more force to kill you than the handgun i carry on my side. >> reporter: an educational campaign in the county is coming soon, alerting pedestrians of the dangers on the road and

precautions they should take. >> making that eye contact and making sure you are paying attention and you're safe and that you're sn or being seen. >> reporter: because this area of wheaton and others in montgomery county have revealed a disturbing trend, one they hope can be curbed if everyone slows down and pays attention. the driver in this case did remain on the scene. at this point, noe charges h been filed. coming up at 5:00, we'll hear from pedestrians who frequent this area and hear exactly what they experience on a daily basis. jim? >> nicole tjacobs,nk you. another case in point, a car struck and killed a 65-year-old reman in l last night. police tell us this happened as th tried to cross fort mead road. victim has been identified now as arnold wilfred mumford. the driver did stop and called 911. he td police he didn't see the victim in the roadway.

we are seeing an outpouring of suppor tweets, statements so many people offering their prays and thoughts a well wishes and a profound sense of sadness guys withshis n that came out today. here in washington when you talk about politics, senator john mccain is a larger than life figure in politics and there have been a couple themes that we've really seen aseoe have begun paying tribute to him today. one, that he is living a lifetime of service. you erknow, hed in the u.s. senate for more than 30 years. hefore that, of course, he served in vietnam war and prisoner of war and he hasre ly capping off a lifetime dedicated to serving the united states. andhe other thing about this guy is especially given the political climate right that he represents civility in politics. so manyf these well wishes are coming not just from his own party republicans, democrats and people he worked with throughout his time on capitol hill. heouadsly worked with a lot of people across the aisle.
