we're told that about6:30 tonight, four young people went in the water. they omencountered heavy choppy waves and one of them, a 12-year-old girl, did not resurface. they sd in some cases feeling their way inch by inch along the bottom of the bay in a desperate attempt to beat darkness that greatly hipd ter their efforts. first responders including police officers, firefighters and divers flooded into sandy point state park when the 911 call came in about of 30 p.m. a 12-year-old girl was missing in the waters off the beach area and presumed drowned. it was a two to three foot bay chop. the kids went a little further than they had. it was over their head. that's when theifficulty began. >> reporter: spotters in a police helicopter worked overhead. after it became too many dark to search bieye and touch, fire boats used side scan sonar to

documents tomorrow. i'm shomari stone, news4. the timeline of there case spans nearly a year. police say harpery col was injured september 19th of last year. she died more than month later on october 31st. then in april of this year, maryland state police alerted fairfax county p officer jason colley was a suspect. three days later he was placed on paid administrative leave. and then fast forward, four monthswh to yesterday en colley was indicted. today, colley turned himself in. onight a suspected hate crime against person protecting your children as they head off to class. d.c. police tell us a driver repeatedly threatened and yelled anti-hisnic slurs at a crossing guard near an elementary school. we saw extra police out today around lafayette elementary in northwest d.c. oris happened yesterday. a police r shows the man
