potential missteps found in court records as investigators collected evidence from that burning mansion. >> our investigative reporter jody fleisher joins us here with a story you'll see only on news 4. >> reporter: after countless delays and years of questions the tri for the soul defendant darren wendt is set to begin next week. we've been digging through the courords and finding new details raising questions about the way evidence was collected at the crime scene and what may have been missed. you'll recall wendt is charged n theme greusome murder of his boss, wife amyld and tn along with their housekeeper all killed in the mansion in5. 2 now take a look at what we found. in the basement of the mansion, investigatound a screwdriver holding a window open. is that how the suspect was able to get inside?

18-year-old young woman or that of her former teacher. th scene of the alleged crime, a storage closet inside shop classroom at langston hughes middle schoolhere a teaching girl says her teacher timothy threlkeld molested her as her eighth grade year came to a close. said the prosecutor, this defendant grouped a young girl to meet hiserverted sexual desires. their improper relationship came to light in the summer of 2014. threlkeld lost his job and later his teaching license, but it wasn't until last year that the girl revealed the new graphic details. but his defense attorney says the girl is making it all up,sa ng, quote, her facts keepmovingt the vince in c e. she urged jurors to think hard about that storage closet asking the bottom line is why would you go into this cluttered storage closet if no one was in the classroom in the answer is because it didn't happen. but prosecutors countered reminding jurors of the 600

pages of texts written between the two, and they spotlight aal phone last year recorded by police in which the alleged victim confronts threlkeld. we've altered her voice to protec her identity. >> are you sorry for the things that we did? >> like i told i you,on't know what to tell you. it caused me a lot of problems, what went , and i just -- i -- i don't know what to tell you. >> reporter: and it appears jurors are listening to that corded phone call again because when i left the courtroom a few moments agoy t were asking for i.t. to help. timothy threlkeld faces four counts of indecent liberties cotenvmd, oic to h ten years on each one of those charges. wendy, back to you. >> thanks, jooulgs. in addition to the arges, threlkeld is not allowed to teach in any public schools. the virginia department of ucation cancelled his licenses three years ago because of his misconduct allegations.

scott macfarlane and the news 4 i-team had a conducted an investigation into teacher license revocation and continues our coverage. >> reporter: wendy, there's aty sa net to keep teachers invoed in sexual misconduct called license revocation. once you're stripped of a rcense in one state all 49 other states flag you and keep you away through a national database that's shared by all 50 states. tce a teacher's name is entered into the system tcher is unable to get a license elsewhere. it's used by the 50 statepa ments of education, but virginia is going a step further. we're td in the coming months every individual school district will be given an access to check the search engine and run a name search on any prospective teacher hires. virginia has set aside money to help the school dtrictsay for this. virginia has taken several steps to improve and speed its system for revoking teacher licenses.
