angie goff has theni m off. millions of folks are getting ready for what is often the last ste of summer. the political world is focussed on a final tribute to senator john mccain, and tse tributes are going underway right now here in the washington area. coverage. full team of we'll get to that in a moment. i want to begin with what is a storm team weather alert day. heavy rain overnight. >> we're weather alert once again today. we had the rain overnight las night dropping a lot of water across the area. a lot of ponding on the roads still there. prd some road as you head out the door this morning. also expect somefog.

he was an offensive lineman who collapsed during a practice and passed away two weeks after the may 29th. practi it led to an investigation by the state board of regents looking into the culture of football and the things that happened that day of that practice. also some revelationsbo ag earlier issues. kevin anderson was found to have acquired lawyers for two students embroiled in a sexual misconduct case. that was apparently csing some problems becse theniversity supposedly only supposed to provide leg referrals, not actually payor this. we're told the lawyers were paid for out of d athleticartment funds. that's all in the backdro re. what really matters to tho folks is what goes on now. to movethe possible way forward as we hear from one fan ere tailgating. take a look. >> i think that it's just important that we're able to take today and enjoy a football

mansion murders. megh meghan fitzgerald explains why other items could have been missed. >> reporter: in less than a week the mansion murder case will finally head to trial. it was more than three years ago since the savopoulos famil and housekeeper were brutally murdered. news 4 obtained c thisrt document where the prosecution is responding to the defense team's questions about evidence. we're nowrn lg that just ten days ago prosecutors checked the pant pockets that savopoulos was wearing the day he was murdered.
