hot again tomorrow. prince george's county school system is already planning on an early dismissal. we'll have a live from jay gray in the gulf in a moment. first, here's doug with our local focast. doug? >> yeah, guys. you mentioned that heat. a high today of 95 across the region. we saw indexeten 100 and 105. that's what prompted the heat advisory for today. i fully expect these numbersmo ow. 95 hagerstown, 95 philadelphia. heat index between 100 and 105 ue to an area of high pressure dominating. an area of storms formed in d.c. that gave us cooling weather. dropped temperatures by about 10 grees. not expecting rain tomorrow. big ridge of high pressure sending all of our storms to the north and to the south. leaving us high and dry and warm and humid again tomorrow.

storms to the south, tropical i storm gordon making landfall. we've seen winds gusting upwards of 80 miles an hour. this is the alabama, mississippi border. here's biloxi. this storm making its way onnt shore parts of mississippi and alabam jay gray is in gulfport right now. this storm just to your east rinow. really starting to wreak havoc on thosears. >> reporter: it really is. closing in on this area, as well. we felt the wind pick up a bit and see the surf grow, as well. right on the edge of the next nd of rain comingthrough. those conditions can expected to continue through the early morning here. driving rain sent a growing surf as gordon batters the gulf coast. >> obviously r looking atn and storm surges and localized h flooding ae ricking. > that risk stretches from the

>> dc public schools public chancellor explains how 2,000 ts stud personal information ended up posted online for anyone to see for six months. >> how could this happen? >> yes, well, i think as you are aware, we learned that this happened as part of an inadvertent submission. >> dcps sent this letter home to parents of affected students after a s trceped me off about the letter, i called dcps. they confirmed itta misnly included student information in a spread sheet it gave to the dc council in february thated incl students' names, dates of birth, student i.d. numbers, school, grade level, attendance information. housing status, and whether they're eligible for special education. >> why didn't anyone notice the' studennformation posted sooner? i mean, february 5th to august 9th is a long time. six months. >> i think it is. that's a veryqu good tion.

and as i said, we are making sure that this does not happen again. so part of the next steps are to make sure that there is a thorough review of information. >> dcps remove theor imation august 9th when an employee saw it on is the councis website. the letter to parents wasn't sent till august 31st. because of theolay weekend, some didn't receive it till today. >> we needed to make sure we had correct student addresses. >> we reached out to council mbers on the district's education committee but they were unavailable to comment. meanwhile, dcps says they believe no one els gained access to the information. in that letter they sent home to parents, there was a phone number provided for parents to call if they have any concerns about what happened.e live h in northwest d.c., back to you, jim. >> shomari, thank you. he today was first day back for many students in virginia and maryland. there is n leadership in

tonight we're hearing from the family of a woman mauled to death by her own dog. >> pole say it happened just weeks after she adopted the animal. her husband found her after the attack last night at their home incolumbia,maryland. barry syms from our nbc station up in baltimore spoke to the woman's sister. >> she was wonderful. >> that's how family members want robin conway remembered. poce sayhe 64-year-old long-time columbia resident was mauled to death by a pitbull in the backyard of had her he on

tamar drive. her family says when her husband discovered hiseriously injured wife, an the dog was still tanding over her. he called 911 and tied the dog to a fence post. she was pronounced dead at the scene. >> this was one animal she thought she could save that wi t animt needed to be rescued and the animal unfortunately ki>>ed her. according to police, while tied to the post, the dog continued barking and lunging. two weeks ago, conway brought it home andro beganding foster care. >> all we know at this point is that the dog was notdoed locally. apparently she got him from out of state. he's a pitbull. and unfortunately, as a result of this incident, he had to be euthanized. and you know what? they were grea they were great. and i know, i have friends that have been owners of pitbull mitchs and they were great.

cre's the area of high pressure over theter portion of the country. that forces all the storms up and over our region creating very warm and humid conditions. that's what we'll see tomorrow. sendsrm the sto the south also including gordon makinarits way in t alabama and mississippi. intensifying over the last couple hours it will start to weaken quickly. we've seen winds gusti 80 miles an hour with the storm. current sustained winds at 70 moving to the northwest at 14. it moves inland quickly in toward parts of mississippi and tomorrow morng, nothat big of a factor. heavy rain could be anue i there. hurricane florence, now up to 100-mi-an-hour storm. category 2. winds moving at 12. way away from the u.s. however, watching this storm the next couple days, expected to stay a hurricane and back up to nearly category 2 status by end of the five-day forecast ssibly.
