peak of the heat we'll b feeling anywhere between 100 and maybe 105 degrees. t actualperatures will stay in the 90s again, but we do have go intooming as we tomorrow and especially the weekend. wait until you see this forecast. i'll show you coming up. morning ing news this on a major murder case in montgomerycounty. tyler tessier, the man accused of killingis pregnant girlfriend, was found dead inside a clarksburg jail this morning. >> his murder trialas supposed to begin today. megan mcgrath is in rockville with n details on what happened. megan? >> reporter: well, a strange wist in what from the very beginning has been a strange and tragic case. now, we're here at the courthousecounty you can see that we are waiting for a press conference, which is scheduled for enoon. we'r expecting to hear from prost.utors at that poin now, tyler tessier had been in court on tuesday anday wedne for jury selection. he was supposed to be back today for the opening argumts in his murder trial. but about 5:00 this morning, he

was found dead in his cell at the clarksburg detention facility of an apparent suicide. tessier is accused of killing s girlfriend, 31-year-old laura wallen. wallen, a teacher, was 13 weeks pregnant. he was missing for nine days before her body was found in a shallow grave in damascus. now, investigators say tessiern was li double life and had a fiancee and killed wallen when she threatened to expose their relationship. inight of thi morning's events, the jury has been dismissed. we spoke to one of the and she described how the judge told them what happened. >> he said there's reay no easy way to say this. he was very grateful t all the potential jurors and then he said there's no easy way to s this. then he told us about the defendant. and so it seemed lik half the people were in shock. some people seemed like they may save, you know, caught wind of it early t morning when they walked in. but we had no idea. like why aren't we going into

court. why are we going into the lounge. so it was shocking. >> reporter: now, the montgomery county deparent of corrections released a statement this morning giving a timeline of events.le tessier was woken up at 4:00 this morning to prepare for court. he showered, he ate breakfast. he then returned to his cell to dress, we' told. a guard on rounds saw him alive at about 4:36 a.m. and then that guard on his next set of rounds found tessier dead. he wasanging from the top bunk in his cell, hanging from a bed shee so a press conference getting under way we're told right around noon. we are t expecting hear from the prosecutor as well as potentially the victim's family. back to you. >> all right, megan mcgrath. megan, thank you. icide attempts are rampant in jails and prisons. a news4 i-team investigation shows more than 400 attempts in local jails in the past three years alow. >> scott mcfarlane continues our

coverage with how a major facility like the one in montgomery county htr been ng to reduce the risk of these things happening. scott. >> good morning, aaron. in july the director of the montgomery county department of corrections told the if an inmate is intent on harming himself or her self, it akes just a brief moment or second to doit. using public records requests, they have responded to 100 suicide attempts in the larger jail and the smaller detention center they have. two of those attempts resulted in thees deaths of inmone earlier this summer and of course this morning. in july the county granted rare aco the clarksburg jail to the i-team and correctional officers there say they have made several recent rescues, including one in which an officer stepped beneath caught a man who attempted to leap to his death from a high railing inside the countyja . they use a sategy called direct supervision to monitor inmates, to reduce the risk of suicides. that means officers rarel sit

this morning we are learning new details aut how the county school board is working to keep children safe. last bight therd gave formal approval to a new one-year pilor ram. that program places retired prince william county police ficers in elementary schools. there will be six positions and three of thosere spots a already filled. funding for the pilot program was approved by the county board of supervisors last springak in the of the mass shooting at marjory stoneman douglas high schola in pa, florida. happening today, arlington national cemetery is opening a new ssion of gravesites. the new section will add 27,000 new spaces, including 16,000 reserved for cremated remains. the newly discovered remains of two civil war soldiers will be buried in that section this afternoon. more than400,000 veterans are sb intered in arlington. the list of officials who say they did not write thean ymous opinion piece in "the new york times" is getting

these are the actual air temperatures but we're only in the 8 but feeling like 100. annapolis is at 90 degrees. so we're going to stay very hot day. we'reatching this area of storms moving into parts of pesylvania. that's also with a cold front. we're still under there high pressuo we'll stay mostly sunny. little to no rain relief this afternoon. if you see a pop-up shower consider yourself one of the lucky ones. we're alsoing the remnants of gordon which is a tropical depression just south of memphi entually this storm will get kind of absorbed into a cold front. eventualak it will its way towards us and that will keep go rain chances high as we into early next week. for today, though, no rain chances very high in there st. 95 for an afternoon high temperature, feeling like 100 to 104. we do have a stray shower chance like i mentioned, but it's really going to be just a couple at here's what future weather is showing here. we could see a couple pop-up showers or storms. tonight we could have a couple

on for a long time. this is our 40th anniversary and we're the longest running neighborhood festival in d.c. so the current volunteers that have been put tng on f last four years, we're really just the custodians of something that has been built the years and gone through changes and changes in planning and the shape of the event. it started as a big block party potluck. they got together businesses and people and decidednt they to have adams morgan day so that's when it started. now we're celebrang the 40th anniversary. >> kara, you're one of the volunteers for this all-volunteer event. how did you get involved with this? >> about four years ago, a lot of peopl saw this in the news. adams morgan day was cancelled by the last organizers. i saw it on the news like everyone elseea and about volunteer organizing event about two weeks later at grand central. a bunch of neighborhood residents and businesses got together and a talkedut how we could try to save it. so we've been trying to save it ever since and learning as we go.

but it really seemed like adams morgan day was this thread that really held the his ry of the neighborhood together and we didn't want to lose it. >> and you've had -- like you said, this is an all volunteer . ev people kind of come onboard as the need arises in terms of volunteers. are you in a good place, always looking for the next generation of volunteers. >> i would say in that week before thee event, we definitely looking for more volunteers for next year.e it would super helpful if anyone wants to get involved. >> carol, walk us through some of the highlights. you're holding a soccer ball.ne i imahere's a ton to do at this festival. >> there is a lot and it runs all the way up and down 18th street as far as the street a closure goiost all the way down to florida avenue from columbia road. but businesses participate all up and down columbia road as well as florida avenue. so we've got the business it participation specials for restaurants and we've got a hugl out youth and family area called the family fun zone at the newly remodeledd marie r
