get? >> as it sits now across the atlantic ocean, this thing has really blown up over the past 24 hours, going from storm this time yesterday, a very weak hurricane, to a monster of a storm out there right now. the eye starting to get bigger and you can see, this is a buzz saw hurricane, winds of 135 miles per hour. winds moving west at 30 miles an hour with 130-mile-an-hour a category 4 storm south of bermuda on this track, staying on the westerly track coming in toward the carolina onbeaches. thursday, this is thursday, with 145-mile-an-hour nds. this is national hurricane center forecast. this is about to be revisedthver next hour. big time damage along portions of the carolina beaches and the storm surge for our area won't be until friday into the weekend. the big issue f us could be flooding associated with that. so tracking florence. we'll have much more coming up.

parking lot. tracee wkins is live at police headquarters. you've been working the story. what have you learned? >> reporter: well,e we were a to break on twitter that this officer was actually targeted. let me tell you what happened. prince george's county police are you. reporter: now confirming that this offduty police officer was practicing at a gun rge here if prince george's county. when he left the gun range, someone else inside the gun range decided to follow him. he went to grab lunch and that's when the suspect breaks into his vehicle, taking a nber o weapons. and some of them high powered weapons. let me take you back to friday to show you the scene as the officials are investigating.t the suspecas able to get into a vehicle and drive away. the offduty officer said he fired the weapon as the suspect drove away. re weapons wereovered but the suspect made an escape. now police are looking for that

exit. that's why we have it tonight, too. >> all eyes on hurricane florence. this is a monster of a storm. once again, this was a tropical storm yesterday morning. now back to a category 4 hurricane and you can see there, the eye looking very, very healthy. notice the red. the areas of red here right around the center. now how they envelope the entire area. you havehe buzz saw type feature here showing a very intense hurricane. this hurricane is only expected to strengthen over the next couple hours. we have a couple days to watch it. this isbe uda. on this current track, heading west a 13 miles per hour. winds at 130 miles per hour. it is expected to strengthen more. category 4 over 150 miles per hour. this is close to a category 5 strength. it is expected to weaken as it

comes onshore. but still expected to come onshore, winds at 145 miles an hour and then quickly dissipating to a category 1. if this is lik l isabele if 2003, and i think it will be single l similar, this will sit and stall over north carolina and virginia for ivwards of days. that will be the biggest concern here. it will be foding from this. and we're talking about wind and storm t surge alo north carolina beaches, south carolina beaches. even into the chesapeake bay, and our beaches will have some impact. he biggest thing will be the flooding. rainfall totals up to 20 inches. we could even see it as far a north our area. i mentioned the coastal flood warnings in effect for d.c. the arlington area. toward alexandria.

this is wha wanted to show you. we're talking about three days away. 130-mile-an-hour winds moving to e left at 13 miles per hour.xp this isted to become a category 5 and may become a category 5 at some point. it is expected to weaken as it hits land but still expected to be a category 4 at landfall. itsill weaken once it mak way onshore. in this area, this is the area most impacted from thestorm. the carolina beaches. inland portions as well. the biggest factors will be first off, major wind damage. 130-mile-an-hour wins. storm surge flooding will be incredible along specially north carolina beaches. and then of course inland

flooding. and rain could last for days. you could see 10 to 20 inches of rain. that's in the what about our weather? we'll see onshore flow here and just like over the last couple days, the flooding will be a major issue. we'll s rain and onshore flow. ut because of what we've seen over the past couple weeks, and really the past couple of months. that's what could make hurricane florence worse for us. >> and 2018 all across the mid-atlantic has been extremely wet. take look at these nuers. is is year to date rainfall accumulation. that's how much rain we've seen around the virginia and maryland area. baltimore at number one, fredericksburg number three. again, top five all across the

board. over the next several day we're still calling for some scattered chances of rain. isolated chances wednesday and thursday and then friday we'll start watching and tracking florence. moving into north carolina possibly. bringing us rain. we're lookingate as we go thursday at noon. we're already seeing some rain that we're getting from these systems over the next couple days. so again in d.c., a little over a half inch of rain. then as f srencerts to come onshore, 9:00 p.m. friday. .ow we took another inch and look at th it is pegged a hit. almost 11 inches. as it movesinland, the european model. we're looking at f almostr and a half inches of rain. almost five inches of rain we think it can continue to add

report. >> frederick says he and his staff have increased the minimum number of credits students are taking to 15. >> that alone has moved it. our retention rate has gone fro 82% to 96%. >> reporter: the success howard is enjoying in the end of the school year. auditors found that employees had amisappropriatedid funning for nearly a decade. some were fired and students made a list of demands. this year many students admit they've started to see progress. he said the university has more work to do but he is pointing to the latest rankings report to show that they're headed in the right direction. right now, all eyes on hurricane florence.
