2016 chris gordon reports on what is at stake in this murder trial that shock our community. >> reporter: polne receive emergency call from a home if wood bridge. crystal hamilton reports that her husband threw her gainst a wall, hitting her head. by the time police officers arrive,am crystalton is dead, shot three times with a handgun. her husband ronald hamilton is now on trial for killing her and using an assault rifle to shoot the three police officers at his door. killing officer ashley gwynndon, her first day on the job. ronald hamilton is an army staff rgeant who served at the pentagon. he is wearing his dressrm uni in court charged with capital murder and attempted murder. prosecutors say this man who presents himself you two the uniform of a otector, he was anything but.ut prosecors say these were

and west. thursday, two:00, cing very close to shore as a category 4 and then weakening as it makes its way to shore. a lot of computer models have it coming very close to shore before stalling. look at this new track. this is amazing. yesterday, this line, it was above d.c. now it is well south and now it includes atlanta. this storm may move toward the n wion, north carolina area and then move south in toward south carolina and in toward the atlanta area. that's what the european model does. that will be very i see.ting to a lot of models now on that. what does that mean for us? >> we'ren a very good position with high pressure. it is dominant to the north. the area of high pressure,

blocking the hush. normally a hurricane would come right up across our area. but not the case. it is making it go to the west and that kee us much drier. today, 1.3 in d.c. all the way through next tuesday. some locations picking up 30 inches of rain. inland for the carolinas, it is something like they have not seen fo. they've seen fran, floyd, major flooding. this may be historic flooding. for us, the farther north you go, the less of an impact. now, coastal flood warnings, still, d.c. toward alexandria. saint mary's county. yeah. more coastalnd flooding into the next couple days. in the normal areas of flooding.

tracking the latest on hurricane florence. a category 4 hurricane. 140-mile-per-hour winds right now. the latest advisory on this just came out at 5:00 and now it has north carolina under hurrine warnings and parts of virginia under tropical storm that includes norfolk and virginia beach. the chesapeake bay as well,ow under tropical storm watches. we'll be watching this much more. but right now, all indications, this storm moves our way and stays to the south. that's much better news for us. >> all right, a state of .emergency today

ahead of the hurricane's arrival. this will allow more resources to be used. also, southern virginia is bracing for the stor the grocery stores are packed. state leaders warn they could be without power for days. >> and they are sandbagging and boarding up windows in the carolinas. more than 1.5 million people have been ordered to evacuate coasta areas. traffic back-ups and gas shortages are a concern for those leaving. ne and of the concerns is how long the storm c over the carries and just churn. that has people not only worried who live on the coast but people who live further inland. tammy is in fayetteville, north carolina. t.out an hour from the co is that enough inland for people to feel safe? >> reporter: hey, we're about 100 miles from theoast and

there's still a major concern of flooding here in fayetteville along with aotf the other inland cities. one of the reasons is the rivers and the creeks swell. take a look at this creek behind me. this is flooded seven times since hurricane matthew hit here two years ago. so residents in this area, they have reason to be concerned. spoke with one family and they said when hurricane matthew came through, it flooded the entire bottom floor of the home in a matter of a couple hours. so they're packing up and evacuating. we spoke with a man who said he will stay. y on protect his home. the last thing he said when i talked on him a couple hours ago, god save us. there is ato imagine evacuation in a lot of areas. a curfew is going into effect i this county, starting tomorrow. going into effect from sun down to s up as a lot of people are vaekting this area

hurricane florence intensifying on its path toward the east coast. a car dealer accused of stealing more than $1 million from the national harbor casino in a cheating scheme and there could be even more people charged. this is an update to a story we first reported, tracee wilkins was in court. >> reporter: they took great pains to train and screen more
