doug, thees watchow include virginia beach. r virginia beach under tropical storm watchesht now. the latest advisory just came out from the national hricane center. and it's even better news for our region, even worse new for the carolinas. let's show you where this storm is. you mentied just south of bermuda, south and west of bermuda right now. still churning in the atlantic as a category 4 hurricane. it hasn't changed all that much from the 8:00 or 5:00advisory. winds of 140 miles an hour. still well aw, miles away from the coastline. pressure up jus a little bit at 940 millibars. here is the latest track. he it's even farther to south. yesterday at this time, the cone of uncertainty was all the north of washington, d.c. now it's well to the south of washington. cape hatteras no longer in the cone of uncertainty, but this storm is gng to still come very close to cape hatteras. going to give them a wallop

there at a category3, category 4 storm, 130 miles per hour, inland at 110 miles per hour saturday. and then all the way back to atlanta, the cone of uncertainty huge here. not exactly sure what this storm is going to do once it comes towards the coast. it's going to sit for days and that's going to prompt a lot of flooding. we continue to see the coastal flood warnings in and around the d.c. area. alexandria, st. mary's county. i expect this kubd of flooding all the wayext week because of florence. we'll talk about that, what you can expect in your area, and the impacts it has here, i'll show you how. >> it's a big one. it a big one. a lot of folks are going to be impacted. thank you, doug. thousands of people are getting out of the carolinas right now. emergency shelters are opening w tonight for those can't evacuate safely. >> our jim handly is in the outer of north carolina where people could start feeling the impact as early as thursday.

pope francis is accused of knowing about allegatns against ex-cardinal the ore mccarrick before they went public earlier this year. the parents of a university of maryland football player who died in june have filed paperwork that could allow them to sue the university. jordanamcnair'sy says he died of heat stroke after collapsing in a team workout at the end of may. according to espn, the family filed formal letters notifying intent to of their u sue. not a guarantee a suit will be filed, but espn reports they could seek up to $30 million. investigations into mcnair's death and the overall conduct of the maryland football program are still under way. still to come on news 4 tonight, the major impact hurricane florence could have on you, whether it hits us hard or not. >> we'llalk about the ripple effects already starting for travel up and down the coast. doug? >> and you can see right here, florence just about 700 miles away from the coastline.

we have out there, it is going to stall right now and that means much less of an impact for us, as we make our way in to the next couple of days. a lot of people today out at stores picking up bread and milk and all that stuff, water, i saw numerous reports, hey, no water at the gnnt over alexandria -- hey, no worries in our area. you.on't need we're going to be fine in our region. t is all down towards the carolinas andt's where the most concern is and that's where it's going to continue to be. hurricane florence, a monster of a storm. the eye right there. it's looke a little ragged here and there, but still a category 4 orm. about 700 miles away from the coast now. and you can see where it is mght now, moving west-northwest at 17es per hour. 1 140-mile-an-hour category 4 hurricane. pressure up tout 946 millibars. came up just a little bit. but may strengther. this w right here in is extremely warm. this is the warmest water there is, it's the gulf stream, very warm water, close to 90 degrees at times. this is going to fuel and

continue to fuel florence. now, coming in, 130-mile-an-hou4 catego hurricane, thursday at 8:00, moving in towards the n,rolinas. ag stalling, stalling coast ally just off the before findly being able to move in. and a lot of the computer models move it south and then towards myrtle beach and that's why this cone issor t she next threedays, but day through five, this area, really, really tough to forecast exactly where it's going to be. i can tell you where it's not gog to be, around our region. why? area of high pressure. ssure to se of high p the north, blocking and just pushing this down to the south, keepin from moving to the north. normally a storm in th position would come right up i-95. instead of moving north, it's going to move to the west. urat takes risk way down. now, we still going to see some rain, yes. we are going to see some rain. right on through the nextee or so. how much are we expecting?

one of the computer models giving us about an inch. mostly one to four inches in our area. the most down in the southern zones here. but to the south,lm gton, upwards of 20 to 30, even 40 inches is the potential dhere. that's why this area is going to be hit so hard. not only because of the storm surge, not only because what's happening right along the t coa wi wind, but the inland flooding is going to be huge. for us, inodnd fg not nearly as big of a deal. we'll still deal with the coastal enflooding. dealing with that for a week. 72 degrees out there right now. winds out n of theth at 6 miles an hour. we do have showers. not around the metro, but in tords culpepper county. you see what's happening, the area of rain is moving up towards our region as a boundary moves that way, so, that means tomorrow, we get a little warmer. temperatures, upper 70s to low 80s. 50% of showers through thursday. and then tracking florence friday and saturday. we will see rain as a result of
