highway are being used to travel away from the shore. the category 4 storm is growing in size as it churns hundreds of miles away from north carolina. florence is expected to arrive late tomorrow. president donald trump has approved a federal emergency declaration for virginia though we aren't expecting a direct hit, dc, maryland, virginia have all declared a state of emergency. this morning emergencyte shel are opened in north and south carolina for those who cannot evacuate safely. john van lun then says he hasn't made up his mind about sying or goi ahead of florence's arrival. he's already boarded up his business but isn't sure if he wants to leave his beach house. >> irene was a big one. we would be in three feet of water when itod f the sound.

from the hurricane center follows pretty much the ensemble of these computer models. each one of thesere is a dif line. the hurricane center is right on track with that maintaining a category 3 too 4urricane all the way tofa la. there is new information on the nerun. saturday,. displ thursday night thlandfall. 're saying it will drag south ward before being scooped up and taken farther inland. the center of the moisture will be going inland a little bit farther to the west. we will still have to deal with the heavy rains from this, but it loo like we will be dealing with it a little farther into next week. sheena is back with the five day outlook coming up. president trump says theer federal gent is, quote, totally prepared to face florce. during yesterday's preaching.

spinning out in the atlantic. our cnces for heavy rain will be pushed back quite a few days because of this. it is out in the atlantic. category 4 hurricane. this is goingo have a big impact once florence moves on shore. that's going to helpt to slow down and kind of meander for a few days. there's a closer look. look at theeye. this is the updated track. 5:00 a.m. advisory. moving on shore sometime thursday morning. southern north carolina or northern sections of south carolina as it looks now maybe as a hurcane or strong cat two and weakening. notice the track is a little farther south. there's the stationary front grabbing it and not letting it move too much. that would not be good. rainfall rates would be credibly high. here's us locally as we go into early next week. we're looking at wednesday. now look to our south.
