winds. y 're going to stay, you'd better have something to hold on to. >> reporter: yeah, tropical storm winds are just as strong as hurricane force win when you're standing out here. there's really no difference between the winds thate've been feeling. hurricane winds are 100-mile-an-hour plus. 60, 70 miles an hour. they're just pushing us around. we started to see the debris flying on the back side of the buildigh across the bay, it is e starting to l power enter mettently. they're starting to see flooding and they're getting hammered by these winds. again, these are not hurricarc winds. these are just tropical force

winds but this is areminder of why people need to evacuate. the winds are expected to increase by possibly 200 miles an hour plus. a little later this afternoo into this evening. you can start to see there's a pow power, the biggest hurricane in recent memory was 1950. that w hurricane ze it brought storm surge of seven feet. this will bring a storm surge of about 7 1/2 feet. so there is a lot of concern in the beaufort area.to the surge is ripping the structures apart. >> that was gadi schwartz. it isn't officially a hurricane untilr repor clinging to a tree. that gives you an example of just how powerful it is. >> keep in mind it hasn't even made landfall yet. and he's getting whied around.

>> that's under 80 miles an hour. the full force hasn'tven come ashore. >> what we're seeing is a sign that people are taking these orders to evacuate very seriously. we've been going up and down the carolina coast and we are seeing the towns that aresu uly busy year.time of it is looking more like ghost towns. they were told to close down by fal 5:00 and it looks like they are. residents who haven't left yet said they have never seen it so quiet. >> i'm sure. about 100 ambulances are on standby right now at ft. lee. aftere ready to deploy the hurricane does hit. they're from cities around the country. llitary installations such as ft.ee are often used during disasters as part of the federal response. >> stay with for all the left a on hurricane florence. we'll keep you posted with maps

showing the storm's predicted path. and we'll have that continuously updated as we get new information. in terms of flying, florence is set to make landfall nearly aier after hurricane marie and became one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the united states. a independent study by georg washington university was commissioned by the government. it estimates nearl 3,000 americans died in that storm and in its aftermath. but president trump who called the federal response an unsung success is now falsely and without evidenceng rejechose figures. in a pair of tweets he accused democrats ofinflating the numbers to make him look bad. asked about those tweets, the house speaker paul ryan had this response. casualties don't make a person look bad. i have no reason to dispute these numbers. i was in puerto rico after the hurricane. it was devastating. youet couldn't to people for a

biffle that time the family was held inside the home on woodland drive. we know that savvas was held hostage, too. an engineer testified that he was contacted by savvas to put a security system. motion cameras were placed on the outside of the home and an alarm on the windows and doors. this man testified that because of scheduling conflict days before the murder, no one was monitoring the system. the footage from the cteras only w to the third floor ich prosecutors s was destroyed. now the the prosecution alsoll employees at bank of america which helped facilitate the ransom. we heard from the owner of an undergroundprinkler mpany. amy savopoulos had an appointment with this man's mpany to day of the murder. he just testified.

it stalls and doesn't mak it off until sunday. eventually making its way our way as a remnant of hurricane norns. we'll see the scattered storms. look, it moves a little farther to the north. and look at the eye here. notice the yellows and oranges. this is going to be interesting to see over the next hours if it does intensify. some of the bands here have gone virginia beach. this is where the storm ranger is. take a look at the last couple hours. we have seen it coming to the east. a couple more on the intense side. take a look inside.

inland. and the wall of watercoill inue to move. in fact, somse h can be inundated. so take a look at this. i want to show you t potential storm surge. this is all the way to the new jersey coast and all the way to florida. we'll start with charlest and savannah. areas of chaeston flood within an inch or two of rain. they'll have stormourge up three feet. then to the north, here's wilmington. to new bern right here. this is where we're looking at six feet above ground. one thing i know about wilmington, it is ahill. so a lot of the areas in downtown wilmington, all that will b impacted. even up around here. look at this. here at the po going to see a little storm we'll perpetuate the east wind. and florence tthe south.
