moving on take a look at these wave heights. 27 foot waves by radar indicated. close to the outer banks 18 foot wave hikes. close to wilmgton, 12 foot waves. it will be slowing down once it moves ore and picking up speed as it gets closer to us by monday and tuesday and we'll talk more about the storm coming up but first our local weather with chuck bell. >> good morning. yes, off to a cloudy sta and breezy outside as well this morning. this is, indeed, the northern most band of hurricane florence bringing rain showers to of the lower eastern shore. st. mary's county, charles coty, all of these showers going eastbound. that's the way it will be for much of the day.hi er rain chances the farther south you live or travel today. so more likely to be rained on in fredericksburg than frederick and inis temperature we're in the tropical air mass.

florence. rom the is the view road in wilmington, north carolina. the roads are empty now. a lot of people listening to the evacuation orders but they're veryet andslippery. the rain still coming down hard. the most powerful partf the storm already knocked out power to more than 80,000 people along the coast. it's bringing 90 miles per hour winds on to land already and we're getting new video into t newsroom too showing the power of the storm. ake a look at this. the winddismantled a gas station cany in topsail beach, north carolina. it ripped the legs right off of the groun that caused the canopy to topple over and then it was dragged across the parking lot. look atthat. florence is still offshore but the winds up to 100 miles per hour to the outerbanks area. this ist flooding a playground in new bern, north carolina.

stor surges caused several feet of water to spill into the streets and the water win m very quickly. large trucks trying to get around also had to take it slowly. see that's dangerous right there. forecasters say because of the winds and the drenching rains storm surge may beor the part of this hurricane. in some areas it could exceed 11 feet. new overnight the hurricane made i impossible for a local tv station to stay on the air. the sabction had to be evacuated because of rising flood waters. ese are videos and pictures the employees were posting as the water started movg in. two meteorologist were live on the air telling their viewers that the station was being evacuated. they actually stayed behind for sometime to keep reporting but eventually it got too dangerousd they also to leave the building. good news is everyone was able to make it out safely. here close to home maryland and virm virginginia remain unds

coastline. this is going to be a real problem. storm.category 1 the winds are at 90 miles per hour. the newest advisory from the hurricane center, expected to come out right about 5:00. so about 8 minutes from now. we'll bring you that information as soon as we get it. there's the outl eye w now. just starting to make contact with the north carolina coasine. once the center of the eye comes on shore, shouldn't be more than another hour or two and we'll be maki an official landfall point. you can see the big swirl though and notice way up here on the northern part those clouds you see, that is the northern extent associatedd shield with this storm. the storm is going to continue to make a slow west and southwest ward jog here over the next 24 hours or so. this wl be in contact with the coastline for a long time and again, you ow, you s oh, it's only a 1. there's no such thing as only a 1. this is going to be a big

coastal problem for the eastern half of north carolina. they're already on the onhore de of this storm for wind flow and they're going to stay there. so this is going to be probably 2 or 3 high tide cycles with a 90 miles per hour on shore wind. so huge problems forec elly southeastern north carolina. the latest track from the hurricane center we ha a little bit more of a northwest warddrag. yesterday all the way into parts of north georgia and now gimarily into south carolina and thenng into eastern tennessee. if you had travel plans down th81 to s western vginia or the western darcarolinas, eastern tennessee, i delay that trip. it's in ohio, pennsylvania, and parts of west virginia. that will be our rain yesterday around here will be monday. rainfall amounts are going to bi extreme with storm. check this out. down across parts of southern north carolina. ybe as much as 25 inches of rain. for us at least, i think we get
