camera in myrtle beach right now. it is dark, b you can see this camera shaking a little. the center of the storm n over south carolina. florence e behind us is still churning and barely moving. good evening.or i'mn ginsler. >> i'm leon harris. tonigh f at leaste people are dead from thi storm including a mother and infant killed by a falling tree in wilmington, north carolina. firefighters and paramedics huddled in prayer after realizing the two cld note saved. >> in new bern, north carolina, an estimated 500 people have be rescued so far. more people may still be ten-feet ofranded by storm surge and the flooding will go on for days. the universy of north carolina chapel hill is now designated a melter as tens of thousands seek refuge from all of the water. >> we have teame cover for you with the latest.

doug, what is the latest? >> the latest is it continues to move down to the south, it is now movin west/southwest at about five miles per hour. that's a little faster. a little earlier at this afternoon. take a look. it came on shore 7:35 early this morning right along the north carolina coastline, right abouta here, it has moved to here within about 15 hours. i mean simplyha amazing has been going on with this. you see the feeder bands continuing to come in from the atlantic and this is what is going to continue to happen throughout the rest of the nighi t. you look at this. look at these feeder bands right here, right arounwi the ington area. that is one incredible feeder band, and then this oneee has going all day. morehead city, and when you look at these totals and we say, hey, we expect 20 in es ofrain, sometimes it is hard to believe. we've got 23 inches of rain so far in morehead city and we're going to see a lot more than that. some locatns could pick up another 15 to 20 inches. you see the center of circulation now right over myrtle beach and it is expected to start moving more toward the

>> reporter: this is the story all over washington, north carolina, roads turned to rivers. this is actually a washed out bridge behind me. over here is the river, the pamlico, and it comes in from the south. so a lot ofhe water that we're seeing is salt water. it has been blown in by florence and from the ocean. the real challenge in the days to come is getting around this area because power is out on a lot of these >> some places are impossible to get to. so houses, there are cars out in the yard with water up to the ndows. some houses are halfway under water. >> reporter: they' seen storm surge of0 to 12 feet, and that led to a number of rescues. eslot of people stranded in their hom the only way to get to them was by pontoon boat. the national guard was busy today. some people went around by kayak to check on their neighbors. about 60% of t residents don't have power. most did notua ev.

i'm wendy woolfolk, doreen and leon, back to you. >> hang in. we know you have tough hours ahead of you. >> yes. stay safe. >> that wilmington andew bern ea has been on a conveyor belt with the feeder bans you were showing earlier tonight, just coming in. >> even though the storm ts moving t south a little bit, the bans stayed pretty much right where they are. that's why morehead city is reporting 23 inches of rain. . that's unbelievable. >> absolute >> in 24 hours. >> in 24 hours. we saw these totals in harvey and w said, okay, can we really get 40 or 50 inches of rain? that's what the computer models are giving us. and of course we did. with this storm we are doing 20, 30, and now some are saying 40. we have a long way to go as ir as florenc concerned. it is still just sitting and spinning down there towards the carolinas. let's show you out there right now where the storm is. you can see, this is the infra red satellite picture. you can tell that the storm itself is weakening, the low pressure starting to get a

little weaker but it does not stop the rains from come on in here. the storm expanding from philadelphiaown towards savannah, 900 miles that cloud shield. you can see the rain through the carolinas here and into parts of theorfolk area around virginia beach. in and around wilmington, look at this, inside one of the feeder bans, you can see the center around myrtle right now, this is where we see the storm surge continuing because you havehe t on shore flow. but wilmington and right in here, this feeder ban has been here for hours and hours and th a two-hour loop. hours. just put my finger right here, just over and or and over again, not to mention the fact we have a tornado associated with thit as well j to the north and west, tornado warning just to the north and west of cksonville. let's talk about the rainfall. this feeder ban, as i said, has been here about all day long. how much rain? this feeder ban, too. well, let's talk about it. 16 inches around wilmington. here is an accumulation of 20.9 inches around the morehead city area, right over towards

new bern. that's why not only becausef the storm surge, but that's another reason they will continue to see flooding for days. you notice, it is creeping all the way backs towards fayetteville, creeping towardse myrtle with five inches to the west of the myrtle beach area. why is it sitting there? it has to do this area of high pressure. that's why we have the easterly winds today. that why we will see more coastal flooding, coastal flood advisories and warning in efr t bare same that flooded last week will flood this week. it keeps the hurricane to the south and does n allow it to move. because of that, it just sits and rains day after day. that's what is going the happen orrow ande day t right on into the day on sunday before it is finally able to move off to the west. latest advisory, 65 miles per hour. winds will continue to come wn, but they're still gusty, sometimes over 65 to 70 miles per hour. movi west/southwest at five miles per hour. take a look at this. this is saturday. this is sunday morning. it is still inside south

carolina on sunday morning a picking up speed and moving out monday and tuesday. you see how far it moves across monday into tuesday. that's why we will not see that much rain hereecause it will be a fast mover. any areas that see the most rain though, back towards the schenn an do- shenandoah valley il whe we wee the most. i'm noth anticipating m flooding in our area. today we saw 15, 20 miles per hour winds, not a baday d. same deal tomorrow. not a bad day. a few showers, but you probably won't nee the umbrella. best chance of showers will be farther to the south.da 81 on s if you are thinking of going to the redskins game, no problem there. a 30% chance of showers but 30% chance of sunshine too. we see a little sun, a little shower, that will happen on sunday as well. again, not anticipating much in the way of heavy rain here. we just have droplets here on
