a view of the flooding and devastation from florence. the storm now blamed for att leas6 deaths. let's give you a ground level look at the situation. more than 30 inches of rain has soaked some areas. water is overrunning communities and swamping neighborhoods. also breaking tonight a college professor comes forward breaking her silence and says she is the woman accusing brett kavanagh of sexual assault decades ago. and the colts gallop pasthe redskins in a disappointing homr open. news 4 begins with a storm team 4 weather alert.

the north carolina governor says florence has nev been more dangerous than it is right now. flood waters are rising and more rain is on the way. we kick things off with storm team 4 chief meteorologist to talks to about the tropical depression, where it is situated and where it goes from here. >> florence is still in the carolinas. arounwas a tornado today the myrtle beach area. ske a look at the latest radar and you will the storm continuing to sit and spin at least into the western portions. that is where the circulation is. we are still seeing feeder bands all the over towards wilmingtce, a p hit especially hard with 30 inches of rain in the region. ok at some of the rain bands in and around the charlotte area. we are talkingbout flash flooding going on. we were talking last week i said i-95 would be closed in numerous locations. it is closed forll miles up

and down portions of north and south carolina. this rain finally making its way our way. we have swers associated with florence moving in right nowot r than virginia. a lot more rain to come and flash flood watches have been posted into our region. i'll show you who has the best chance to see flooding in our area coming up. even though florenceas been downgraded the danger is far from over and the recovery will take a long time. there are still man active rescues happening in the carolinas. jay gray was there at londfall the coast and is live with the latest there. what is the scene? set the scene behind you. >> what a scene it is, one playing out across the carolinas. ant oak tree ripped from the ground here. you can see it falling across the street. power lines are down here. this scene is playing out across the carolinas. 30 inches of rain.

unfortunately, more rain and more pyblems likel on the way here. >> florence continues to slowly eep across the carolinas. the winds have eased a bit but the rain has not. entire communities swallowed wy theer and more is on the way. >> this storm has never been more dangerous than it is right now. >> reporter: the numbers likere the storm overwhelming. more than a dozen dead and close to a million without power. in some areas there is almost 2 1/2 feet of water ripping apart and washing over roadways leaving many no way out. >> noe need to b driving. i should have justre stayed whe i was at. >> high water rescues continue across the strike zone. hundreds have been pulled to safety tens of thousandse could b in jeopardy. risingrisko t life is with the angry waters.

>> reporter: he used a boat to escape. today he got the chance to walk back in. >> it'sime to start rebuilding our lives and see what we are going to do and take it from there. >> reporter: the recovery can't start until the attack from florence ends. lo >> , no power here. a lot of people without water pressure. this car behind us has been crushed. they are still using it to charge their phones and other things that they need. the cleanup here will take time. need a break. it doesn't look like it is going to happen. the forecast calls for rain through tuesday here. >> suchne an impressive s it sounds like the folks are okay. jay gray liven wilmington. thank you. the riverseep rising as concerns keep growing in the carolinas. rains are just not letting up. and that isausing rivers and streams to rise.

some people i area dire situation. jim handily with the big concern for people in greenville, north carolina. >> reporter: we're a hereng the tar river in greenville, north carolina. this is truly the story through tuesday and wednesday of this week. water rusng down from higher elevations in north carolina and flooding out roads and more communities. have seen almost 500 water rescues so far over the weekend. many of those people pulled from cars on roads overnight where the streets are pitch black because power is out. we have seen a number of people without power in the neighborhood of 680, carolina alone. we have seen hundreds of roads across the state closed. i-95 for a 16-mile stretch in both directions and i-42 another big highway closed today to people trying to get south, north, east and west.

brett kavanagh's supreme court nomination. this after the woman who accuses kavanagh of sexual misconduct talks publically for the first time to the "washington post." the alleged incident happened decades ago at a party while kavanagh attended georgetown prep. he accuser, now a professor in california, tells the post kavanagh was quote stumblinge drunk when pinned her to a bed. she said, quote, ihought he might inadvertently kill me. he was trying to attack me and remove my clothing,nd quote. nbc news has reached out but has not independent confirmed her identificatioen tification. in an earlier statement kavanagh denied the allegation weather is being bla for the road idding off and bursting into flames ino rth carolina. other drives racingav the the man trapped inside before it is too late.

carolina. theseti locations ce to see very heavy rain. look at the feeder bands and there are tornado warnings. the charlotte area under the gun right now especially east ofsuresuresur charlotte. look at myrtle beach. we have strong storms movin on shore. the worst of it as far as the gone. s concerned is the bright red, those are tornado warnings. all of this are flood gs in effect for most of the states of north carolina and south carolina, as well. would not be surprised if these move in. this system starts to mov o way. already seeing moisture as far north of northern. virgin look down towards the area. flooding definitely an iss in ese areas over the next 24 to 46 hours. the rainfall down to thouth still going to be an issue in
