angie goff. i'm eun yang. rain overnight and this morning caused problems for drivers. this is brockridge road in laurel. it's covered in water. closed between 7 and laurel buoy road this morning. more rain is on the way. >> because of that,e wanto find out what we can expect in the hours ahead from meteorologist chuck bell who has more on this weather alert day. >> good morning, aie andeun. it's another cloudy and incredibly humid day to be outside. areas of rain still across the washington area this morning. the back end of the rain has moved into parts of wesrn maryland. so there is, in fact, an end in sight. but between now and about 6:00 this evening, off and on rain chances remain high. a thunde lightning over the city of baltimore, up near the towson area. no heavy rain this point in time, but a lot of wet pavement. more showers dotting the landscapecross parts of loudoun county and the shenandoah valley.

this has been a patterne've seen played out kind of over and over again. the rain comes down, we cat t a brea rain comes back, we catch a break. then we also have to deal with the atafte which of course, has been the flooded roads. there's sometimes cones in the road because of road damage. so crews can get to work restoring power ase they ere off of braddock road. no doubt the conditions we've seen for the past several days have been making a big impact here i the d.c. area. despite breaks here and there om the rain, few spots are actually close to dry. slick p blacktop anding are a few of problem spots you'll see around toy. perhaps a spike like this. storm cleanup. fairfax at westbound bddock road, dominion energy crews work to repair a damaged power pole and wires after a tree fell. dominion crews also working n a power problem at the ca kelly

school. overnight outage left the p building withtial power. school remained on today and staff reportedorok. for many, the wet weather and storm damage mean for a slow start to the day. some wrecks did, too, like this serious crash along eastbound 56 between chain bridge rote and nutleystreet. one person killed, another injured. and the cause ora that is still under investigation. meantime, though, some goodews as we kind of dry out here a bit. over attakora kelly school, we're told by the alexandria schools, they were able to restore power, so the classrooms that didn't have ac should be getting some cool air by now. and also, too, forhe handful of customers along braddock rad without fower for hours, aywer should be restored by at least 3:00 today dominion enerog. prss being made on that front as well. live in fairfax county. i'm justin finch.

news 4, eun, angie, back to you. >> justin, thank you. scary situation this morning. people near richmond are hicleaning up after t deadly tornado moved through last night. the wind lifted the roof old dominion florist and ripped it apart midair. you can see hunks of debris flying all over the place. one person died when that business collaps and another was hurt. this was one of a number of tornadoes reported in the richmond area last night. the tornadoes were the remnants of what was hurricane florence. here's a look at the damage once the tornado moved through chesterfield last nitht. roof of the old dominion -- it ended up in the lawns of homes. it caused a gas leak and cars.ye the powerful winds also knocked down several power lines. today, parts o north carolina are experiencing

serious flooding, even though orence has left the area. today officials will begin distributing food water and tarps. the city is mostly cut off by the floodwaters. the death toll from florence has risen to at least 32n people three states. there's also a gas shortage because hundreds of thousanst arl without power. the flooding situation could get worse as several rivers are not expected to crest until later in the week. chris lawrence has more on the flooding from kingston, north carolina. >> reporter: well, eun and utgie, we're daysrom the storm and big parts of this state are still completely flooded. this is one of about 1200 roads throughout north carolina that are still shut down due t the flooding. it starts a couple inches deep but then go a b fther back, there's several feet of water. just about impossible to drive rough. now, take a look at some of this drone video. believe it or not, this is not a river. this is a major interstate high ry. highway 4s from california

4. we continue a to track developing story out of prince george's county. that is where police are investigating a homicide. this happened early this morning around 2:15 on hanover parkway in greenbelt. we're still working to get more details. anbut authorities found a shot. he was taken to the hospital where later died. more than e100 peopl lost their homes after a massive fire tore through a county apartment building. the fire broke out on85th avenuenh in yesterday afternoon as children returned home from school. news 4's nicole jacobs spoke with residents grappling wloh th this morning. >> reporter: a look at her apartment unit from the outside --oo > justng at it, it's crazy. >> reporter: -- not knowing what, if anything is salvageable on the inside is heart-wrenching for brittany hopkins. >> i had a baby in april. if anythint i wan to get his things. >> she's the one who spotted the smoke mon y afternoon com from her neighbor's door and
