of adults in a given year will say they had thoughts of suicide. of those, 13% of those will go ono make a suicide attempt in the course of the year. for teens and those in high school 18% to 20% in a year ve add suicidal thoughts. and 8% of those overall will make an attempt in a given year. these are massive numbers. for teens, about 2% overall will make an attempt that lands them in the hospital nndding medical treatment. this is really unbelievable i think. >> ahey are, you mentionnd, very largeery alarming. now that we have these numbers, what about those people thave suicidal thoughts, how many sf them seek help? >> this a scary thing, too.

we know that people in general who are suffering with mental illness, often the vast mveority seek any kind of help. they just go at it alone. they try to pull themselves up by their boot thstraps. e are multiple reasons, access to care is a real problem, but even for those people out thereho are having suicidal thoughts, the vast minor think get help. the majority of people out there thinking suicide is chan >> what can we do as a community if you know somebody, a loved one, afriend, a neighbor, and you know that he or she is having suicidal thoughts, how do you handle such a delicate situation. first off, don't be afraid to talk to thatut person a their suicidal thoughts. talking to them about it will not increase the likelihoo they're going to act on it. if anyothing, studies have shon
