megan? t> reporter: good morning. a very diffic time for students who knew this young man. they're mourning the loss of a fellow classmate ketoday. look at this picture here. this is elijah cole. y he was 1rs old, a senior at thomas stone high school inf. wald last night he was shot in killed in what is usually a very quiet residential neighborhood. take athook a video here. it happened at this home on wil. meadow stre you can see two bullet holes in the car in the driver way. bullets alsoent through a window in the siding of the home. one or two other housesown the streets were also hit by bullets. so a lot of shots fired in that neighborhood lasnight. elijah was pronounced dead on the scene and found a few houses down. >> we're stunned because he was, like i said, a very respectful

in law enforcement after one officer was killed, six others injured when a man opened fire on them as they were serving a search warrant in florence, south carolina. as nbc's kerry sanders reports, the alleged gunman is a disabled vietnam veteran. >> reporter: t house in this affluent enabled remains a crime scene. what no one expected is when police came here to serve a search warrant yesterday, that inside there would be a man withibed to be in his 70s a high powered rifle who would when police g knocked on the door. >> suspect h a high powered rifle and it firing at officers. >> reporter: this community was shaken to its core. >> today will mark a horrific day. >> reporter: law enfnt in florence county, south carolina, trying to come to grips with a tragy that has impacted so many of their own. seven officers struck by bullets om a high-powered rifle.

police would not release the namenf the perho died in this crash, but maholand high has. >> the principal at northwest high school inan gewn said it was 17-year-old joshia snyder who was killed. this was 270 second near montross last night. justin fin is at the school with the latest. >> reporter: there isel coug today for student and staff who need it. many heavy heartg com school today with the loss of senior students joshua snyder. even at the start of school today, we saw students at the parking lotgathering. the principal announced the loss in a letter describing h as rd working, kind and having a positive impact on all who knew him. the principal saying he will be deeply missed on this campus.
