killed. first responders say it took em nearly 30 minutes to reach him, but it was too late. they say it looked like a bomb had gone off in the county where he lived. this morning we're expecting some of that rain to hit our a region because of that, we're in weather alert mode. >> melissa is standing by with a check on roads and rails. let's start with amelia draper. where is this storm now? what are we expecting? >> the storm right now is in georgia, south caroli it will be moving into north carolina as the day goes on and eventually bringing heavy rain to our area, mainly during the eving hours. take a look. because of that heavy rain later today, the national weather service has issued a flash flood watch forrince george's, charles, calvert, st. mary's county, down through stafford and king george county as well. now, the heaviest rain is going to be thiernoon and evening. i'm already tracking scattered showers out there right now with some pockets of heavier rain. if you're in that watch, you want to anticipate about 2 to 4

across the street.l the powerinds also blew out the windows of homes and hotels. people are also still dealing with flooding. >> and here's abird's eye view of the damage in panama city beach. florida governor rick scott says search and escue teams are heading into the state's hardest hit areas to help two people have died in the storm. one in florida and the one we mentioned in georgia. and we want to show you this neweo vhis morning showing the moments the storm ripped off a building's roof in panama city beach. >> there it goes! >> you can see that roof flying off likheet of paper. a woman riding out the storm in a friend's sixth floor apartment recorded this video. she told local reporters she also saw the wind blow out windows and demolish a resort. farther inland, even for people sheltere inside building the threat was very real. nbc's lester holt found that out firsthand while riding out the storm inside a panama city hotel

room. >> the power is n out. we were outside for a little bit. we were forced inside. hurricane michael proving to be everything it was advertised to be. at one point, lester's crew put a mattress in tront ofhe windows over fears the wind would shatter the glass. it was good ide too. just one floor above them, the nd did blow out the windows, sending glass flying across that roomo the good ne one was inside when this happened. lester was safe inside. you saw that. t check out this moment with nbc's kerry sanders. >> wow. thank you. thank you. >> that was the wther channel's jim cantore, who happened to be nearby, coming to kerry's aid the. kerry later said he was thankful he was wearing a helmet. he said he was hit in theead during that scare, and he could have suffered a concussion without it.

and while hurricane michael hit, president trump was on the campaign trail. he isea catching for refusing to postpone a campaign rally to deal with the storm response. take a look at this video just ursar after michael blled into florida as a category 4 storm. shortly after the storm hehit, t president landed in erie, pennsylvania, to speak to supporters. reporters repeatedly asked the president if he considered cancelling the event, b he said he did not want to disappoint the people who showed up. mr. trump did talk about the storm at the beginning of his remarks. ye i want to send our thoughts and p of our entire nation to everyone in the path of hurricane michael, especiallyn the flori panhandle where it's hitting and hitting hard. >> today we're hoping to learn about the president's planto to these damaged areas. according to the president's schedule, he's set to have a rally in ohio tomorrow.

we're waiting for activation ouom fema to go into where the storm went t. some of the things that we might be looking for are water rescue. that's definitely something we're equipped to handle. air force at maxwe base with six other teams and awaiting arrival of other teams as well. >> do you have any idea how long you might be down there? obviously we saw with florence a lot of foding that lasted for days upon days. any idea how long you might be in ts part of the south? >> we're equipped to se -sufficient for up to 14 days. >> so potentially at least thatn long, andr if needed. i would imagine they'd get you more supplies if you needed that. captain, i think your team was about, what, 16 strong. >> we are 16 members at this point. >>ou typically have to work together if you're called on and

news 4's justin finch ishin the mall morning. what are you hearing about the possible motive here >> reporter: hey there, aaron, eun. it turns out fbi officials say th paul rosenfeld was very frustrated with the nation's politics right now and was so upset, he was willingo blow himself up and even risk the lives of others herel on the m to advance the idea, a very old idea, of something cald sortition. it has its roots in ancient greece. it calls for choosing government leaders at random. the fbi say rosenfeld's bomb plot had been coming together for the past few months in them ba of his home in tappan, new york, just outside of new york city. that house was swarming with federal agents jt on wednesday. officials say rosenfeld also told a reporter in pennsylvania about his plot, and that reporter reached out to the feds. he was tracked down on tuesday, we are told, not far from his home. he did confesshe to plot to government agents as well as

>> one of the hardest hit areas was panama city beach. that's where news4's jay gray is live this morning. jay, good morning to you. describe what you're seeing out there. >> reporte good morning, eun. good morning, aaron. devastation from this storm. it was two pronged. we had the water from the storm rge and from the rain, flooding several areas. things wind that did like this. you can see it snapped this roadside sign, threw it into this business, a business that michael wasn't finished with.ds the wust coming through and gutting this beachside place. i mean, it shredded everything in sight here. it's a complete loss. and i'm afraid, guys, as the sun comes up across thee strik zone, we're going to find more situations just like the one i we're going to see here. significant damage. again, this is the wind. we're also going to have to deal with flooding and wait for waters to recede. >> jay, we know there will be so

much clean to do. people were ordered to evaate. are you seeing any residents out there in the last few days trying to pick up the pieces? >> reporter: yeah, we have seen a few people that were here. obviously there are those that rode out the storm who came out and took a look around yesterday when things lightened up just a bit and started a bit of the cleanup. to start is in full is going to require crews to come in and clear things away t for thosehat evacuated, which is most of tho who live here, the power has got to get back. once that power gets back, this area will come back to life and pean come in and kind of see what's left and assess their own personal property and how they're going to move forward. >> jay, you mentioned the power issue. i was wondering if you'vt seen any of those sorts of crews starting to move into the area, the powerre, the building inspectors, the folks who are going to really hav to do the work of rebuilding this

upset and he wanted attention and would have gotten just that on election day had his plan panned out. he was willing to blow himself up here on the mall, taking his own life risking the lives of others here on the mall to enaw aon to an idea of something called sortition, which has its roots in ancient greece. it calls for choosing government leaders at random. now, rosenfeld was busted on tuesday, found out thanks to a l tipster's c to federal investigators. that tipster a pennsylvania reporter who says that rosenfeld reached out h to about his bomb plot, aha bomb he been building in his home in tappan, new york, just outside of new york city. on tuesday, we are told from investigators that rosenfeld did confess, saying not only had he been hatching this plan from his home, but he also bought eight pounds of black powder that he wanted to use in a20 pound bomb that he had basemenlding in his in that basement as well, also
