parking lot of a bar and a shopping center. news 4's shomari stone just got to the scene. >> reporter: good evening, i'm here thiot this parking off of little river turnpike by 395. the entire parking lot over here is roped off. that is the viva tequila restaurant. we're hearing that there was a shooting involving a security guard. however, police have not told us the condition, the name of the curity guard, or the name of the victim. you can see them right here. they are takingpi ures, the re about to exte crime scene on over as they continue to investigate and try to gr evidence. back over in this area, there are people who they are talking to on the other side of those cars, possibly witnesses to what happened. we do not kn if the shooting occurred inside the viva tequila restauraw. we don't k if it was outside, but we do know a man was shot. we don't know the extent of the injuries. police are continuing to gather evidence and talk to witnesses.

we will bring you details as they become available on our nbc washington app. i'm shomari stone, news 4. thank you. also breaking tonight, the saudis say journalis jamal khashoggi died in a fistfight in their consulate in istanbul turkey. it is the first time they have confirmed the writer's death, but not everyone is buying their story. saudi state tv says khashoggi was killed after that fight inside the consulate and that 18 saudi nationals are now under arrest. a statement also said quote, the kingdom expresses i deepest regret. the response on capitol hill has been fast and it's been scathing. wmakers on both sides expressing skepticism that the journalist died in a fistfight. many a calling for sanctions on saudi arabia, but tonight in arizona president trump praised the saudi government. >> well, i think it's a good first step. o's a big step. that's a lot people.

hill neighborhood. police tell us she noticed the guy steal another car.from she got out to say something. then he got into her car a took off. a witness told us the mother was sperately trying to stop the suspect. >> she was going understandably crazy. when she saw this guy get into her car and start to drive away, she grabbed on to the door which was still partially open and tried to grab him and pull him out. she was yelling at him, get out of my car. >> officers found that car a few ablocksy with the child safely inside. the suspect and another man were last seen in dark gray nissan versa with stolen tags. again, if you've seen it or have any information, give police a ll. now, a heartbreaking story out of northern virginia. a manees a woman getting attacked on the street. he rushes to help he but the attacker turns on him, and the good samaritan dies. last night, patric salazar saw
