the timing of this caravan is fluid, on foot. it could take two to four weeks. we are told the migrants plan to st today and travel to another town and then take trains to tijuana next to california's border. >> gabe gutierrez. thank you. let's bring in nbc national correspondent peter athxander at white house. the president is talking about this caravan a l i. out on the campaign trail he must think it's to the publicans' advantage? >> you're right. what is striking is the economy is strong. unemployment is low. instead of talking about his achievements these days, the president is leang into this message of fear. his closing argument focuses on stoking these fears of illegal immigration, ms-13, middle eastern figures. it's what he is doing to motivate his base of support to stave off democrats from winning rback the house the senate or both. obviously, what's crucial in this circumstance is that the

investigation has now beench la into that deadly river rafting accident. it happened in costa rica and claimed the lives of five people, including four americ ss. nbc's kerders is here. he has been following this story. good morning. >> good morning. the families o the fou americans who died are now demanding answers. they want to know if the rafting company should have gone out when the water was so rough. the national emergency commissionrtad an a at the time for the possibility of flooding. >> reporter: this is one of the last photos of 14 miami friends together. th group in costa rica for a bachelor party for one of the young men when tragedy struck. officials say the case is being looked at as negligent homicide, the rafting company under investigation. nbc news reached out to them but received no response. the group booked a rafting expeondi buthe quick turned deadly. one of the survivors posting on

instagram what started out as the be trips of o lives turned into one of the woont nightmarese could imagine. they will be in my heart and in my memories forever. the river rate ford ginnersed and intete rafters was running high from recent heavy rains. he friends in three rafts accompanied by five guides. one of the survivors telling nbc minutes of fiv being out on the river, all three rafts capsized and everyone ended up in the water. everyone struggled to get back on the rafts buthe ultimately t rafts continued to capsize due to the immense current. ten of the men made it out alive. four others and a local guide were swept away. 25-year-old ea 25-yr- -- brother of the groom. autopsies confirmed the died from asphyxiation.
