this could have been someone that wanted to inflict harm or maybe they just wanted to inflict fear, but just because they did not detonate may not mean that the intent wasn't there. it could very well be that om er was constructing these just didn't have the know-how, didn't have the capabilities to put together a device that would actually detonate. there aew a keys of evidence here, though, one is that the piece right herehat is connected to the device looks like something of a timer, but yout wouldn' really be able to time a detonation if you're sending it through the mail. you wouldn't know when it hadre hed your specified target. so, there's a lot up in the air and i think investigators will tell everyone they speak to now, press conferences, privately to reporters, is that they don't know the intent until they're able to trace these and find the perpetrator. >> and while you're sleeping tonight, this story course, continue to change. we'll be on the air at 4:00 to tell you about any new devices discovered overnight and if we learn nor details about the

he verdict was a slam dunk for prosecutors. three years after four brutal murders. seven weeks after the trial began, daron wint, glty on all counts. news 4's megan fitzgerald explanshat surprised some experts today about the verdict in the muso-called mansioers trial. >> reporter: for the last three and a halfhe years, family of these four victims have waited for justice. today, in a unanimous decision by jurors, lead prosecutor laura box said justice was served. >> very relieved. the jury did the right thing. we're very relieved. very happy. >> reporter: daron wint was found guilty for holding hosta and brutally murdering this acouple, their chi housekeeper back in may of 2015. the parents were overcome with emotion and cried the moment the verdict was read. it took a diverse panel of jurors two days tora deli,

which is something former federal prosecutor glen kirschner said was unexpected. >> it told me that the prosecutors left no doubt in the minds of the jurors that this was a very song case on the evidence. >> reporter: for six weeks, juro listened to evidence a the testimony of more than 20 witnesses called to thest witne d. prosecutors argued that dna evidence tied daron wint to the crime, showing jurors it was found on five items, inclung a pizza crust and on the bedding in the room where the three adults were murdered. defense attorneys argued that wint was innocent and it was his two brothers who commied the murders and tricked daron into coming to the mansion. but in the end, jurors decided that daron wint is the one who took the lives of four innocent victims. daron wint will spend the rest of his life in prison, b he will be sentenced on february 1st, and t whether or not he'll have the

possibility of parole. now, tomorrow morning, we're expecting prosecutors to release all of the evidence they used to convict daron wint in this six-week trial. reporting a d.c. superior court, megan fitzgerald, news 4. a deadlocked jury means a virginia man will get life in prison instead of the death penalty for killing h wife and a rookie police officer. a judged sentenced ron hamilton to life behind bars today. he killed his, wi crystal, and prince william county police officer ashley gwindon, her first day on the job. hamilton's fathe was grateful that the jury spared h son's life >> we have always beeng ask for mercy, and my son has always been remorseful. >> the mothers of the two victims wanted the death penalty. the officer's mother said

cleaessage should have been sent -- if you kill a police officer, you will get the death penalty. three hig in leesburg face very serious charges tonight after a football player was sexually assaulted in the locker room. we told you about thit incid earlier this month. one high school student faces sexual battery chaes and two others are charged with assault and battery. police tell us the student attacked was an underclassman, october 1st, and the incident was not hazing. the football team went to the state finals last year. a stray bullet hit and killed tom marmet on his way home from work last night. the 22-year-ol was driving home through northeast d.c. he was not the intended target. news 4's shomari stone reports now on the pain for both marmet's family and the neighborhood where he was killed. >> 22-year-old tom marmet, a social worker whorecared for
