synagogue in the squirrel hill neighborhoodf the site today's mass shooting. david? >> reporte erica, we are about a block and a half away from that synagogue. u can see some activity right now. this is police switching out shifts. they've maintained thatpe meter trying to keep folks as far as back, they're still processing a crime scene back there. as their emergency lights are shining, there are other lights shining tonight, as well. take a look at one of makeshift memorials that has popped up, flowers, candles saying hate has no home here. all of this is just the start of healing. >> reporter: if there's power in numbers, then this is the city of pittsburgh show who its might. it is a scene that' becomell too familiar, almost routine. wed byating violence fol a community's embrace of one another. ♪

darcy spencer continues our team coverage from lafayette square. darcy? >> reporter: erica, there was a strong showing at the vigil people wanting to come together to be together to mourn the loss of these innocent lives. one woman at the vigil told me tonit because of this shooting, she has lost hope. ♪ >> reporter: members of the jewish community came togethe outside t white house, many with candles in their hands to denounce the shooting that left 11 people dead an the synagogue in ttsburgh. >> it's not about who is republican or democratic. it's not about who os conservative, who's bel. right now we're really in a fight between evil and good. >> an end to this violence, an end to this hatred. >> reporter: they denounced hate speech that many feel is empowering it some to commit violence again jues and other groups. >> today, and the president

n returning to our team coverage of the massacre in pittsburgh. news4's david culver joins us once again outside the temple of life congregation synagogue. >> it has become a very fficult and unfortunate reality that follows acts of violence. you have the community coming together, loving one another. that in and of itself is part of the healing. wever, what we are seeing more and more especially since parkland, havg covered that in south florida earlier this year, is that there is a distinct difference in how some,al espe young people, are responding in the immediacy of the violence. young people for the most part are saying they want people to act upon this in going to the polls, in vote. they're turning this into an effort to get out the hvote. say that's part of their healing. back to you. >> david culver for us tonight.

thank you. countries around the world are standing in solidarity with the ctims of the synagogue shooing. this building in israel projected the american flag along with the israeli flag on the front of its building tonight. shootings at placesf worship are all too familiar here in the united states. last year, the deadliest attack at a house of worship in theta uniteds happened independence sutherland springs, texas. a gunman shot and killed 26 people. in 2015, a man walked into a church in south carolina and murdered nine parishioners. thre years before that, a gunman shot and killed six andd wounur others inside a sikh temple in wisconsin. stay with news4 for continuing y coverage of thgogue shoot pging. the attack led had local leaderser to our synagogues. for information, open the nbc washington app. >> all right.

let's switch gears. eare than 30,000 people are getting for one of the biggest races of their lives. tomorrow's an marine corps marathon. in our area we're bringing in tens of thousands of supporters. day buses dropped off participants. nme were there to grab their bibbbers ahead of tomorrow's more than 26 mile race. the marathon is the largest in the world that doesn't offer prize money, earning it the nickname the people's marathon. our team will be on the arlington side of the key bridge. roour coverage tomw on news 4th today start at 6:00 a.m. all right. betith the rain today, i you are wondering if we're going to be rain free tomorrow. wouldn't all theik runners that. i think we'll be able to deliver. >> yes, tomorrow will be flip of today. we're looking at some rain chances for nday.
