that plane xes from that crashed in indonesia with 189 people on board. this morning t w mystery oft caused a brand new 737 to plunge into the sea remains. nbc's joe fryer is at a boeing facility in washington state joe, good morning to you. >> reporter: craig, good morning. the lion airport that crashed was brand new, not even three yes old. it was a 737 max built here in renton, washington. so far, the cause of the crash is unknown. in a sea littered with debris, divers are battling strong currents asrch crews work around the clock looking for victims and clues. on land relatives of t passengers and crew anxiously await for news, including the family of one of the pils from india. search teams have found human remains from some victims, but the aircraft's blacka box d

recorder has not yet been retrieved. indonesian officials believe all 189 people on board were killed when the lion airra flight ced monday. it was supposed toe a one-hour flight from jakarta to a nearby island. minutes after taking off the pilot asked to return. flight radara shows the aircraft descend rapidly before the crash. lion air says during a previous ight one day earlier the plane experienced an unspecified technical problem, but it was immediately fixed. >> the investigatorsre going look very carefully to see if the maintenance performed on thp ne did, in fact, fix it. >> reporter: the plane had just been delivered to lion air in gust. it's a boeing 737 max 8, one of the most advanced jets. the company is deeply saddened, adding boeing is providing technical assistance. boeing says the 737 max is the
