carbon monoxide fumes are still leaking into their suvs despite the free fix by the manufacturer. >> susan hogan has been following this story closely. for more than a year, she's with new details. >> that's right. so last year, our news4 consumer investigation found carbon monoxide inside two ford splor explorers at levels some experts called alarming. ford insists it safe but after our story aired, it announced a fix for more than 1 mill owners. now we've learned some say the fix isn't working.tt g you in danger on the road. one year after ford's peace of mind safety repair began, some xplore owners who have had the repair aren't feeling very safe. ews4 found several new complaints on the complaint database for the national traffic highway and safety administration.

here's one from a16 explore owner from west minute sister, maryland. who said after the car was fixed, exhaust continued into the cabin affecting my family's health. this explorer owner says the fix has no rolved the issue. and exhaust fumes are still in the passeng cabin. and there are many more. to the extent they'rege ing a repair, we're still seeing a significant number of fos saying, i'm still having the problem. >> they want an immediate recall of 1.3 million explorers. sears 2011 through 2017. >> why are people having these symptoms? is the fix not being done correctly? is a different fix needed we would lik to see an investigation. >> an investigation that started more than two years ago.ed we a for an interview with the administrator but our request was declin.

nhtsa did send a statement saying the investigation is ongoing. they're continuing on conduct field inspections of complaint vehicles and they're monitoring the repair campaign for effectiveness. ford also turned down a request for an intview but said they continually monitor sxerns they're confident the mplimentary service procedure is effective. that complimentary ser but has an expiration date of december 31st. what ford has done here is replace article with a technical service bulletin which is a service update. calls don't expire. this shouldn't expire either. >> so ford says complaints have decreased significantly s theyago. if you smell exhaust fumes in your fordex orer, ford says should you contact your dealer. our advice is to also file a
