jennifer wexton ahead. the comstock campaign says they have internal polls tha show this closer. this is about suburban women turnout. this is a district that stretches from mclean to winchendon. ifry suburban and rural pockets so what jenner wexton will be counting on is especially turning out that loudoun county and western fairfax vote. barbara comsto hoping her reputation for constituent service. she is a wong whom is at countless community nevents. necessarily inviting theed media but hoping that pays off on election y. >> she's tried to distance herself from president trump and tried to be in the middle, a moderate conservive but trump is a big factor. he's never been very popular in virginia and this is the federal

see how the pro-trump people treat her when it comes to election day. >> and a lot of national talk has been about whether suburban omen who were leaning towards the republican party are coming back towards the democrats but in virginia woinn are ru across the spectrum. >> we have a record number of women, in fact. >> and those are the seats that dets are hoping they can flip from red to blue as well so they have put a lot of stock in the female candidates. there are four of them in hotly contested raes. talked to the governor this week and asked for his on predicbout how many he thinks he can flip. he thinks two, maybe three and four on a great night. >> there's a woman running against dave bratt the 7th district, two-term incumbent. this is a sur isingly tight race between brat and democrat abigail span berger. how did it get so tight? that's another seat the 10th direct.

much like the 10th district, it stretches from suburban pockets to the rural areas. it's down to the richmond suburbs and then up to culpepper d a piece of fauquier county. so imagine how long that is. probably a 100 mile expanse there. so the same sort of voter dynamic at play in that distric abigail spanberger needing to lock up big chunks of those suburban areas and dave brat hoping to hang on the the moderate republins and the pro-trump republicans in that area and then pick up heavily ie rural district. >> we'll come back later but it seems the democrats in virginia having done so well t in statewide 2017 race where they nearly took control in the statehouse in the house si feel really energized from last

year. there doesn't seem to be any flagging enthusiasm at all for them. >> yeah. and i waswith governor northam this week at an event for jennifer wexton and the first thing he said to volunteers is "are we going to keep the bluew e going?" you asked why the 7th is so tight. well, there were stumbles by the brat campaign early on. his campaign got fahold what should have been confidential background information from federal government personnel files on abigail spanberger and tried to publize those to the media. >> some kind of intelligence backgroun >> even before that, so they got into some hot water over that, that was not received well by voters and there was a one and only debate between the two of them. there's suppoed to be a second debate. dave brat backed out of that but in the debate spanberger had a very strong performance and i think that helped her position. >> i want to go to maryland. the big race is the the one to watch, governor larry

hogan trying to win a second seat and ben jealous outmatched in the polls and fund-raiusng. a jealin would be a huge upset in this race. we've seen huge early and absentee voting in this race. is it a matter of early turnout or crossover vote. >> it's a matter of democratic base out. ben jealous, the former head of the naacp has little ties to the overall state of maryland. he must have turnout. he's talked about a million voters, maybe voting. but larry hogan, the moderate conservative or conservative moderate governor has outpaced him in fund-raising like 10-1 or 20-1. hogan had outsideer suppo the republican governors association, ben jealous has been so far outdistanced in

money he can't run a good campaign. he's not even on social media but he says he w-- he was on mu and he said the democratic voters are going to turn out. they like his idea for $15 minimum wage, free community college.w polls sim way behind. it will be an extraordinary upset but i tell people, don't forget in the spring he ran neck in neck and jealous won by 10 percenge points so he sees the vote out there that other peopla e don't see. >> and what have you seen in virginia. >> just li maryland our northern virginia jurisdictions have shattered their absentee voting records from prr midterms. they haven't surpassed the presidential yet but a lot of people are cast issing ear inss
