about 100 degrees. unreal. >> other side of the hemisphere. meantime, we a following a developing story out of memphis, tennessee, where sople have been shot, one died at the scene, the other at the hospital. ala lo reporter snapped a picture from the scene outside o of thee where this happened. police say the victims range in age from 13 to 21 years old. they haven't released details on what happened. four surviving victims are in the hospital. their conditions range from serious to critical. prince george's county police officer issuspended, accused of taking hundreds of dollars in exchange for not writing citations. the officer apparently did this to two people over theast couple weeks. the chief didn't release the officer's name but he wants to warn anyone who may be colluding with this officer. he wants to find out if any other citizens were offered this deal. >> they are not culpable because

days. ay gray, nbc news, los angeles. rig now in montgomery county, police are investigating a deadly collision yesterday just before 6:00 in the morningo authorities s of those gianta pea pod trucks hi toyota corolla as the driver were making a left-hand turn. two people in the corolla died and another passenger has life threatening injuries. thhe driver of truck wasn't hurt. a frightening ordeal turns into heart break after ama 's dog gets shot during a robbery. this happened on franklinstreet in northeast d.c. friday night. the victim had just gotten out of his car when a man approached, then he took his h iphone a cash. the suspect got into a car and got away but police say the g, victim's pit bull, ran after the guy. another man in that car shot the dog in the face and the twosu pects drove off. the getaway car is described as

republican governor to win reflection more than 60 years. in iavirg democrat jennifer, we wexton's win denied barbara comstock a third term. joining us, julie carey and news 4's chris gordon. chris, it was a blowout for larry hogan. he won 56% of thean vote survived a heavy democratic turnout. his win didn't translat down ballot but what were voters trying to say to larry hogan? t >> well,ey were trying to say basically they're comfortable with him,hey like him, the way he handled cancer, the way he aches across theaisle, the way he represents himself as being bipartisan, talking to anyby of any party, being the person that speaks common sense. he jok after the election saying -- the baltimore sun said he surfed the big blue wave. he said i was looking for a purple surf board on election

day. he said there were no coattails, there was a repudiation of president trump wh put himself on the ballots when he wasn't on the ballot and despite the fact he was only the second governor reelected in maryland, he didn't get a call from the white house. he said he didn't expect ibe use he's no fan of president trump. >> voters clearly approve of the job he'sdoing. how important was it for him to distance himself from president trump. >> absolutely. the voter turnout in maryland was very highd we are -- it appears ben jealous had as many votes this year in his loss as larry hogan had four years ago in his win but despite there was a splitting of ballots and it was mostly if not f exclusive larry hogan. in other words, other republicans didn't get the benefit.

there were two senators by the republican party in the maryland general assembly, but democrats gained seven in t house of delegates. >> what do you think the second term wil look like. >> very much like the first, according to governorn. ho he says his priorities are the same. he says h'll continue to work for accountability and education as well as jobs and being business friendly in the state of maryland. i talked to senate president mike miller who said you knowf many those achievements that the governor claims werell r the democratic-controlled general assembly png those laws and we have had to -- he has had to along with the general assembly veto some of hogans measures because ly hasn't fuunded education. there is a dfference in a struggle on some key points. moving to virginia, that state's blue wave started with

jennifer wexton beating barbara comsto comstock. it was the first sign and early sign of the wave in virgia. it was the first time the seat has flipped from red to blue in four decades.e id it with an army of volunteers, an army of women. >> an army women and, you know, many of these women arose out of the women's march. they have aligned themselves with a whole variety of groups, indivisible, moms demand action, network nova, and they set out to help give jennifer wexton this victory. she had hundreds and hundreds of women working, knocking on doors. and it a proved to be very strong formula. she said -- i asked her about this after the election and she said she thinks it's's what separated her race from others. however, we saw that blue wave in virginia sweep over suburban virginia so not only in this district but three democratic women flipped seats that had and red for a long time

they, too, were getting that kind of support from women who say they're fed up with the red rick in washington and they realized it wasn't you have no give money.y t needed to get boots on the ground. >> and they're just getting started? >> i sat down day after the h election w group of women for moms demand action, they're already talking about the next elections. and in virginia there are elections every year so they have their sights setoa on of supervisors races and the general assembly making more plaul. >> what s we expect from jennifer wexton going forward? ence to ad a news conf talk about her priorities and they were clear during the campaign as well. we asked what commite assignments she would like and a she said shinterested in transportation and infrastructure. metro runs through her district so that is something she would like to work on. more metro funding. she points out metro transports, a third of the federwork force, so that will be a high priority. un violence prevention was an issue that certainly helped with

her victory.g that's somethhe's going to pursue. and then also health ca reform, affordable care act. that's another thing she'll work on. that was one of her calling cards as a candidate in the general assembly, she is one of the people who helped get medaid expansion approved. >> and what's next for barbara come stock? we have remi our viewers that the president spiked the ball on that >>race. > well, afterwards, yes, he did spike the ball. i haven't had a chance to talk to barba comstock. she was in a laundry list of candidate he is bad-mouthed the day after the election, that if they only embraced h they might have won. ask jennifer wexton about that and she hado a response. she said that's absurd. she said look what happened with corey stewart who is mini trump.
