team coverage. laur lauryn, what's next? >> we've got rain that's next, guys, once that transition from the wtry mix takes place, we have rain. look at this this transition beginning to take place. areas to the south and east of i i-95 are seeingra that . all of that snow and warm air is now being transitioned tod plai rain. yellow shows you where it's heavy in spots. we're seein possibly isolated events of flooding. this is going to continue all afternoon. you go on the western side of i-95, we've got snow. we've got sleet mixed in in somt but this warm air will start to ift to the north and west with areas alongi-81 the last to see that transition. and look at this, those temperatures supportive of the snow. temperatures are in the upper 20s here in d.c., we have a temperature of 34, down through

conditions much like we were seeing right accumulation on the ground. this is not powder. it's kind of icy and dse here. that is what is piling up not only on the ground here but also on the ground. as you can see, whitney road here, a lot of slush in the street here. go over toward the intersection there, much more clear, much more traffic. a lot of people who wok up this morning were surprised to see this much snow actually coming down. most only thought they'd see a dusting, maybe a little bit of snow. woke up to a lot of it and also school cancelled, too. we just met a short time ago a group of plow truck drivers who say this was a surprise for them as well and their advice n is for everyone out there to be careful, whether you are walking or driving, ttoo, andy say as for their jobs as for plowing, they can handle it but it all

avenue, a lot of snow accumulated on the grassy areas. overall the volume is nice and light because folks are staying home, as theyhould be. heymarket her-- haymarket here. we're sleeting around town right now so our roads are covered in thisarea near georgetown, a crash blocking the right side of the road in great falls. a crash blocking westbound lanes and 70. very, very slow through the boonsboro area.

from our weather patio in northwestd.c. we've seen this wintry mix all morning, especially here in the district. ng just when i start pla christmas music already. it's been a messy morning for commuters. how are things looking out there, molette in? >> check out the ice and snow here. our news van it started with rain, big fat snowflakes and then freezing rain. this was during the latter part ru the morning. it made it look more like a winter wonderland along hnnsylvania avenuee in southeast. it didn't stop folks from driving, frbiking in the snow. folks are pretty much used to

e go to the latest on those deadly wildfires in california. it's been wexactly onek since they started and since then at least 58heeople across state have been killed. 56 of those people killed in a one ined camp fire, this northern california. and this morning crews are facing another difficult day of searching for more than 100 people missing. many o them thought to be elderly. in southern california, the woolsey fire is burning near los angeles now. crews have more than half of the blaze contained at this hour. >> and here in our area, storm team 4, winter weather alert. this is the drive on river road early this morning. >> the snow and sleet making for

bagged and ready to go. >> reporter: it's just pretty much making sure we're in position when the temperatures drop below free>>ng. eporter: wednesday's winter blast bringing snow and ice from tennessee and louisian a.in d se westboundinterstate 40.pi in mississ two were killed and more than 40 injured after a tourus flipped on a slick highway. >> oh, wow, it's so pretty. >> reporter: this southern november freeze already at record breaking levels. in places like monroe, louisiana, which saw its earlier measurable snowfall ever. before the snow tapers off here in st. louis, they could top five inches of snow. if that happens, it will be the first time they've seen that much snow in november since 1980. >> wow.

i was greatilsetting e-m from parents whose kids were in school wondering what it's going to be like at 2:30 when the buses go home because it was so bad this morning. >> you sent me that e-mail. arlington hadchl today and southeast. we are going to change over to in. but not everybody is going to see that transition quickly. it's taking place right now but it is moving so slow. so you see the green. t that rain. the white of course is the snow, the pink ise where we hav a little bit of a mix. that's where the warm air is moving in. this is the rain that has happened first. through souther maryland going down through the northern neck. fredericksbu fredericksburg. this is heavy rain, shown by the orange and yellows. all of this warm air is lifting towards the north toward i-95,w washington. eventually all of that warm air

will move to the north,ti traning all the snow and mix to just plain rain warm air will continue to move to the north and west towards i-81 through the day but out in shenandoah valley, you may not see that transition until later on thievening. and west of i-81 may not see it at all. so there could be some good snow amounts through i-81. temperatures a0 in thes and 30s right now but they are starting to come up for areas to the south a east. let's talk about us and points to the south and east. we have a winter weather advisory for those areasn purple, a winter storm warning for those areas in pink. g then we' a flood watch. that starts at noon for areas along 95 and to the east. that's where we're already seeing heavy rain and since we've already had the hard freeze aoss the entire area, that means we don't have any vegetation to stop thatru ff.

hagerstown. we saw him when he was in frederick. he said he actually flipped this morning when he was driving. >> skidded out when i was coming down. three cars did it and two semis backed into each other hitting the ice. so i was just surprised. i've driven throughhis stuff before and the roads have always been pretty good. >> and they pretreat. >> yes, that's why i was surprised. substance following a struggle. embered and n di taken out of the building. the saudis have changed their story several times. even now that they're admitting killing him and prosecuting people for it, we still don't know where his body is. the prosecutor also claimed the person who ordered the killing was the head of the negotiating team sent to repatriate him. high-ranking lawmakers have expressed skepticism in the past that this killing could have occurred without the cro prince's approval. >> here at y home, the attor general is working on new hate crime legislation, partly in response to last year's violence in charlottesville and an al ov jump in hate crimes over the country.

take a look at this picture that was tweeted outy the maryland state highway administration. it shows an overturned fire truck on eastbound i-70mi near marker 42. all the lanes of the highway are open but that truck is still in the median. nobody was injured in the. accide thank goodness there. really nasty conditions. and a lot of people want to continue as normal and it does chang things change things on the road. >> absolutely. >> what are we lookingt here in. >> we're looking at flooding. >> why aree transitioning? >> we've got an area of low pressure that's going to be traveling up the a certaeastern board. as it travels, it's going to

forecasting theseo events are difficult because we had warm air moving in but we had a lot of cold air. so we got a lot of snow but the warm air is starting to move int why we're seeing the transitions right now. freezing rain i not good. it creates a lot of black ice. take your foot off the acceleration for the black i and do not slam on that brake at all. keep that steering wheel straight. we could hiae ice, espy on the exit ramp. there is the warm air, here's the rain pushing to the northwest, here's the snow heavy in sport in spots. ve got reports of two inches. heavy rain will start t move to the north and west. you need to pick up the kids from arlington, walexandria, k most of the snow will be gone
