in the shaw neighborhood for us, right along 16th street. shomari, what are neighbors telling you there? >> reporter: well, right now, neighbors are in disbelief. they tell me that this is a relatively quiet, a peaceful block in thehb shaw nehood. the type of place where you'd come out in the evening, walk your dog, go for a jog and not expe to see yellow crime scene tape. let's roll some video. homicide u detectives p the tape outside the 1640 northwest -- excuse me, 1640 new jersey avenue northwest. this ishere policeeceived a call about the strapping idsta 7:15 tonight. police say the man died at a hospital. thsneighbor, who d not want to be identified, says he heard lifight in the apartment next door. tell us there is no look out forct a susight now. they won't explain why they're not looking, but d they say the homicide is isolated and still under investigation, and there e is no threat to the peo the neighborhood.

the victim's >> the girl was left and came back with two young boys and they shot him. >> reporter: over that? >> over that. >> reporter: what do you make of something like that? s> uncalled for. >> police tell the other victim is expected to recover. murders in the district are now almost 40% this year compared to last. with one month to go in 2018, 147 people have been killed. we'veearned a teacher from montgomery county is facing dwi ch in a deadly crash over the holiday weekend. this t was hisrd dwi. nicholas saadipoureaes english and theater at quint's orchard high school in gaiters burg. police tell us his car was disabled i-95 near gaston, north carolina, early friday morning. a car had to swerve to avoid him. car crashed. the man behind the wheel died. tonight, the principal at quint's orchard released a statement, saying in part,

police have indicated mr. saadipour may have a significant responsibility for the accident. he will be on leave while he addresses this serious matter. tonight, new cases of a dangerous virus confirmed on the universi of maryland campus. the adenovirus is partly reonsible for astudent's death earlier this month. none of the three new cases are as serious. none of the infected students have had to go to the hospital. maryland also saying tonight there i no obvious link between adenovirus and mold found in on-campus dorms. olivia paragold died a couple of weeks ago from the virus. he was in her freshman year. big news tonight fromu the lercounsel's office is accusing the president's former campaign chairman of lying to federal investigators in the russia probe. that would be a breach of paul manafort's plea agreement. in a new filing tonight, federal prosecutors askedud a to

blind man and his service dog on metro's red line this mornin the victim tells police he accidentally bumped them gettihe onto train at rhode island avenue. a woman nearby caught the incident on camera and snapped these pictures. we're told the man and his dog are okay. neighbors tell news 4 the smell of natural gas has them nervous. and what's more, they say they're being kept in the dark about gas leaks. our mark segraves went to georgetown tonight to get some answers. >> reporter: a few years ago, edward noticed the smell of natural g near his home in georgetown and he reported it. >> this particular one was in mid september. >> reporter: since then, he's been on a mission to find out how bad the problem is beneath the streets where he itlives. >>n a five-block radius of where we're standing, i've dock united at least64 separate gas leaks or repairs. >> reporter: he's been taking pictures of the leaks being repaired and chroniclingnhem his website. >> my worst case fear is what
