alaskans willpend the weekend. >> reporter: it happened around 8:30 localme the ground in anchorage started rumbling. >> my head board started smashing against the wall. i held that. once everything started shaking, my daughter crawled into me and was screamg, i'm scared. >> reporter: when it was over, people flooded sial media with pictures of damage. the local affiliate captured the moment tremors struck a local courthouse. ull shaking lasted nearly a minute at attorneys and spectators dove under desks for cover. the quake broke glass and knocked things off shelves and cracked roads. it was ade magni 7.0 earthquake, the epicenter a few miles north anchorage. >> people in anchorage can expect to beeeling aftershocks most othe day and potentially for a lot longer time.

just how often the groundou shas there. amelia? >> alaska averages about 40,000 -- yes, 40,000 earthquakes a year. now, that's moren t the other 49 states lmbined. but of those are pretty low magnitude or not happening in populated places. that's why this one was different. on average alaa sees six 7 magnitude, an eschs a year. but this one relates to the one back in 1964. that was a 9.2. the strongest ever in united states history. alaska a has hozen aftershocks of 4 magnitude or greater. those are forecasted to continue. the biggest aftershock coming in at 5.7 magnitude. to give you guys aow idea of many earthquakes alaska

i spoke with an uncle of one of the young girls hit tonight. released me she's been from the hospital and is fine. same for the older woman hit asl no word on the condition of that elderly driver, and no word on the cause of the crash. all of that still under investigation. new tonight, a siousrash in prince william county. at least two people injured hereeh one of theles ended up hitting a power box for a nearby traffic signal. this happened around 7:00 tonight on westbound prince william parkway at moore drive. it has since re-opened. also new tonight, a dangerous virus seems to be spreading at the unithrsity of maryland. confirmed more cases tonight. that makes 22 students that have been diagnosed witthe virus that contributed to one student's death. last week a freshman died from
