police were called to a convenience store ofern avenue near the d.c. city line around 2:15 wednesday. .hen they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot he later died at the hospital. police say the suspected shoplifter was shot during a fight with the store manager. seat pleasant police say they're looking over the evidence to et determine whr that shooting was justified. investigators are expected to give an update sometime today. some scary moments for people eating at a wendy's inbu gaithe this week. a man started threatening them with a knife. that happened at the location on grand street monday afternoon. police say the man was asked to leave the restaurant refused. when he wouldn't drop the knife, and ers had to tase h took him into custody. fortunately, no one was hurt. happening today, general -- a new era university of maryland football team. megan mcgrath is on campus ahead of that press conference. we know they're going to announce the new coach today,

some windows boarded up. i fireestigators say there were no smoke alarms inside. maiden is the fourth person to die in a fire in d.c. this year. a maryland middle school is trying to finef out who a threatening note in the building. the note was stuck to a bathroom stale and said there would a shooting at west lake middle school in waldorf on the 17th. a student reported the note and the school took it to the charles county sheriff'soffice. then another student reported she was sent a text message about animilar threat a different day. the school says there is nothing to indicate that these were credible threats, and children are safe at school. a company wants to build thl biggest farm on the east coast in spotsylvania county. a prettyt there was tense board meeting on whether to build that solarpr farm. onents argue it will be good for the county. opponents say it will cruty propalues and deplete the water supply. the 6,000-acre farm would be o locate three sites in western spotsylvania. right now the planning commission is reviewing that

the man behind the-p highered offense at alabama is to take over at the university of maryland. mike locksley will be introduced the new head coach later today. news 4's megs mcgrath on the campus at college park with more ahead of today's announcement. >> and gan, this is sort of a homecoming foroa locksley. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely. he's worked here before. he's a familiar name and face here on the maryland campus. as you just said, university of maryland picking mhael locksley as their new head football coach. now, he's going to be introduced later on today, but first he's going to have to finish up with his old job.

plan include expanding career and technical programs, hiring expanding, and programs that allow students to get their associates degree while stilln high school. the board will discuss the budget on december 18th. well, a school's name and evokeical connection c a range of emotion. this week, arlington county school board will receive some op ons to name a new middl school and rename an existing one. the new middle school is under construction, going up now at the site of stratford junior high. the name comes from the plantation that was owned by the onfederate general robert e. lee. the school board already voted to have lee removed from washington lee high school. they're considering washington heloving to honor virginia couple a court case tha allowed interracial marriage. as for the new middle school, the committee is considering two options, both with the word stratford.

when it comes to free food, people get downright serious. this morning we're learning an offer for a free slice of cheesecake forced the police to be called to the clarendon location. the rycheesecake fac partnered with the door dash app to give away these free slices. you can imagine they were inundated. it created af lot traffic trouble for delivery drivers outside of the restaurant. meanwhile inside, it caused a fight. police tell us when they tried o break up the, one man struggled with police. he was arrested for disorrly nduct. the promotion was for yesterday only in honor of cheesecake factory's 4th anniversary. do not try to go today and ask for free cheesecake. >> i was looking to see if i re recognized anybody in that video. th there are social media reports the promotion created problems op other locations as well. >> pe were up in arms.
