heavily travelled. then las night, just before 9:30, an officer was behind the whl of a marked police cruiser when he struck that man who was crossing the road. >> around 9:27, in the evening, one of our marked police cruisers traveling southbound on georgia avenue came in contact with a pedestrian in the roadway. the pedestria. was stru he pedestrian was then transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. >> and as you heard, that man was very seriously injured. again, georgia avenue now reopened. s identit released yet of that officer or that man that was hurt. as you have seen and heard for several weeks, several months now, lots of pedestrian involved crashesicith vs along georgia avenue. in this case, as you can see here, this pestrian was not using a crosswalk. police noting just above and below this crash site at georgia and dawson avenues there are

installing a temporary support structure under the middle arch of the bridge. they're also going to remove steel from theenter of the bridge. this is part of an overhaul, the memorial bridge,he work not expected to be completed until 2021. now tia mem bridge of course is in pretty bad shape. the work has been o f going sometime but it needed an overhaul and that's going to mean some issues for commuters as they have to periodically shut it down from time to time. they're trying to minimize the impact by doing the shutdown over the weekend, but still, still a very popular, heavily used bridge, so it's going to effect people over theaneekend again, not just cars. we're talking about pedestrians, cyclists, anyone, all of it. the sidewalks, all of it will be closed. it's going to have an impact, but the hope here is that theil workbe completed over the weekend, or at least this section of it and then they'll be able to reopen by rush hour monday. back to you guys. >> a right.

>> it's 5:50. happening tonight, the work on the memorial bridge this weekend means you might need to find another way across the pomac. megan is on the d.c. side of the bridge with more. this is going to effect commuters this morning as well. is that right? >> no, you'll bhi okay morning. traffic is moving across the memorial bridge. this closure isn't going tpp until tonight but it's going to have an impact on people traveling between d.c. and virgini over the weekend. take a look at the specifics here. memorial bridge, it wil completely shutdown starting at 9:00 toght. will remain closed, so completely closed until 5:00 a.m. on mony morning. so the entire weekend. crews are going to be installing temporary support structures underneath the mide arch. they're going to remove steel from the center span. it's part of an overall of the bridge. the work won't bticompleted un 2021. so this bridge in need of a

southwest. a lot of moisture along the southern branch o the jet stream. the problem is we can get the two jet streams to work inn combinato bring us a winter storm. most of the action will stayow well to the south. let me show you how future weather handles this storm. could have significant flight delays today in and out of dallas and houston. the heavy rn heads for atlanta on saturday afternoon and as the moisture ends up in the colder air here, there will be a significant snow n acrossth central and western parts of north carolina. that will come up int the commonwealth as well. blac blacksburg could get 6 to 8 inches of snow. but notice the snow never really gets north of the richmond area so we'll be high and dry here. might be able to get some snow but even that is not a guarantee. chilly.w, sunny and there's the 10-day forecast. our snow chances are for the southern parts ofa our are on sunday afternoon and then cold d dry most of next week.
