the sheriff's office is investigocing a sl media threat to north point high nchool. the pal of the school called the threat disturbing. the school is open day, but we are told some parents have come to pick up students. the principal is reminding students thatts thr can lead to criminal charges and/or school discipline. and out of anne arundel county, thet arr of a suspect in the murder of a real estate agent. someone called from the home in hanov hanover, maryland. he died wednesday nigm trauma to the upper body. in an ho, there will a news conference with more information on that arrest. look for updates in the nbc washington app. wilson leaves behind his wife and two young children. a major shutdown happeningt

ght and it could effect your plans if you're driving in and this the distric weekend. t> is the entire span of the memorial bridge sng down all weekend for needed repair work. >> megan mcgrath is there with the impacts on the closure. >> reporter: this is going to have an impact on the people traveling between d.c. and virginia. as you look behind me here, you can see that traffic is moving in both directions at this point over the memorial bridge. but in a m of hours, all of that is going to change. this is part of the ongoing construction work, the overhaul of then bridge that's been ppening for some time. and what they're going to do is the work that they're doing over ndthe wee requires them to shut down all lanes onhe memorial bridge as well as the sidewalks. so that is going to be happening tonight at 9:00. and the bridge will remain closed throughout the entire weekend. the hope herha is they can reopen things by 5:00 a.m. on monday in time for monday's rus hour. they're doing a variety of work.

they're concentrating on the o cent the bridge. they're going to be putting up a temporary s they're going to be removing steel from the center span. again, all ofshat requi them to shut down all the lanes. it's not a situation where they can just take some lanes away. so people who are traveling across the river, you're going to have to take a diffent route, t 14th street bridge, the roosevelt bridge. those are good alternatives o you'll by for tonight's rush hour, but not after that. we spoke to a couple of ladies that said it's going t inconvenient. >> memorial bridge is the best way to get to the district from national airport. oit's the best way getting to arlington. >> a lot of us cross the bridge to go to shops or exercise or whatever. this is a twice daily corridor. >> reporr: and so things normal for the moment, but that's going to change after

into the crowd killingr heather hend injuring many others. if convicted of the most seous, fields could face life in prison. developing this morning, a man has life threatening injuries after a montgery county police cruiser hit him. >> the pedestrian was rushed to the hospital with some very seris injuries. this happened on georgia and blueridgevenues around 9:30. that's lesthan a mile from the wheaton metro station. if you're familiar with that area, montgomery county police say the pedestrian was n the crosswalk at the time of the crash. police say the officer was not responding to a call when the person was hit. the officer was not ajured. georvenue was shut down for hours last night. it opened back up this morning. happening right now in d.c., wlice areking to track down a kidnapper after an armed abduction. d.c. police tell news4 that around 3:30 thursday man armed with a knife broke into a home onest virginia avenue. that's right near gallaudet

university. the suspect then kidnapped the couple inside, drove a them to atm and forced them to take out money. if you recognize this t n, police w hear from you. and developing right here in the district, a man was seriously wounded in a double shooting late last night jus before 9:00. officers were called to the intersection of martin luther king jr. avenue and malcolm x avenue. poave not identified the victims. the arlington county school board gave the green light to a school redistricting pl. some say it is necessary to address overcrowding, but others worry it uproot students. the new plan changes the neighborhood boundart eight elementary schools in arlington. thisffects about 500 to 600 students. there are roughly 27,000 students in arlington county in arlington public schools. and the district is growing by about 800 students a year. the board says this plan creates parentsm while some argue their community is being unfairly split up.

it's a race against time in the s off the coast of japan for five missing marines. sen marines disappeared into the ocean after a pair of war planes collided in mid-air wednesday morning. two of the seven marines have been rescued, but one ofha them since died. the military says the crash happened while the aircraft was g refueling during a train mission. it's been an emotional and poignant week as the nation says good-bye to the 41st president.

of cold mornings out here. and the overall cold pattern is here to stay for another seven to ten days. it's going to feel more like winter than fall around here for awhile. the big storm we've been watching now for a long, long time. it is finally moving into parts of the desert southwest. it will eventually impact a large amount of the country. heavy rain and possibly even some severe weather down across parts of xas. so that could affect air travel today and tomorrow. going to dallas or houston. new orleans and memphis also could affected by that. most of it will stay sort of south of this line in here.n already r stretching as far east as charlotte and atlanta. those are the areas that have to be watched closely for the winter weather threat. we're way up here. clear skies, nothing to wor about. as we get into tomorrow morning, the rain moves into atlanta and the carolinas. starts to get farther up north where there's a little snow threat now. less of one now than appeared

before. but oklahoma city to north side of tittle rock memphis some snow. then as the moisture gets shoved into the cpalachians, thisd area of high pressure on top of us, that's going to dam up cold r all the way down the spine of the appalachians. so here's 8:00 sunday morning. a lot of snow possible in stern north carolina a southwestern virginia. the new river valley, the mountain empire could all be pretty hard hit i far southwestern virginia. but there's the snow line 5:00 sunday afternoon. it never, ever makes it to us. so we'll be watching it nonetheless. it's awfully close by, so it needs to be watching carefully. but you need to know as of now, maybe enough to coat the ground south of fredricksburg, but not much of a snow chancere around this city. i'll give you the ten-day outlook coming up. >> all right. we'll have to wait for theon ne thanks, chuck. grammy award nominations announced a short time o. the movie sound track getting a

shooting at a home on deweyad when they arrived, they searched that home and didn't locate any ctims. swatting is an effort by somebody to cause a large police response to an area by making a false emergency call. po tce are stilling to determine if that's what happened here. kevin hart will no longer host the 2019 academy awards he announced his decision on twitter last night. hart wrote he didn't want to be a distracon on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing, talented artists. soon after the announcement that hart would host the ca, he came under fire for old homophobic tweets and jokes that resurfaced from a 2010 comedy special. he told audiencesis h biggest fear was his son coming out as gay. the academy has not responded to hart's departure from the show. ♪ i got so brothers that will tell the story with me

>> it's a very impressive movie. it's the latest by alphonso coron. this one i'd say is his most personal work because it's inspired by his own childhood growing up in the early '70s in mexico city. it's sort of a love note to the nanny he had growing up in his middle class family. it's first-time actress playing this who we interviewed if you want to check it out online. but this is all about the gorgeous black and white cinematography. there's takes that he's so famous for cutting that it will pan across the clotheslines of the city scape of mexico city. it's beautiful to look at. from the opening shot, he's in command of the me credits happe mopped suds on the floor as she's washing the floor. then we see aeflection in the puddle and he's reflecting on his life and child wood.

>> not good for them. it's like california.ea it's or famine out there for rain. you saw the mudsdes, the damaged burn scar out there. this is a big-time winter storm. it going to have almost no effect on us. why is that? some of us really like snow. but the winter is early, so maybe we'll get our chance a little bit later on. this one, though, our friends and neighbors in southern virginia, north carolina could get pasted with snow. rerts of north carolina going to get 12 to 18 inches of snow. so this is going to be a big storm for people not too terribly faran away. it will have a big impact on travel as well. sible today ys p and on into tomorrow as well. but again, the opportunity to get any accumulating snow anywhere within about a hundredn miles of waon, it looks pretty low. here you can see again, can neverook at this too much. just updated our computer model so you can see it never really precipitation line

with the pets you already have, what's the easy dos and don'ts? >> to get themsed to t crate. you need to have some kind of travel carrier to transport your pets whether it's by car, train, or airplane. so you don't w to just put them in the crate right when you get to the airport because they're going to b tfreaked out whole situation. so you can give them treats, get them used to it givehem their food inside of their crates. get themfy some c bedding for the crates so they sleep in there normallyn and t when you're ready to travel, they'll be much more ready to go. >> a lot of people think crate training is cruel. no, it's amazing. i never had to crate train a dog before. but when i had a bigger house, i thought well it could eat the house. they love their crates. >> they do. also if you'reaking them to family's house, then they can

hang out in their crate and they have somewhere familiar to be instead of in a forei room. >> and i assume also it would be best to bring their own food along with them as well. >> absolutely. >> yeah. don't want to be switching up e diet on that kind of stuff. any medications or anything, like, if you're going to be flying should you give a doggy downer. >> i don't think they recommend t at. i doow if they even allow it. he your dog's in cargo, nobody can get to to help them. so it is much more stressful to travel with yr dog in cargo. which is why i really would suggest not doing it. instead i would only travel with, like, amall dog and try to set up pet sitting or a kennel for a larger dog. with a smaller dog, you can put them in a carrier and put it under your seat. most airlis dollow that if you pay extra. >> that's some important advice there f sure. thank you very much for coming in today and bringing mr. carlin along with you. he's practically gone to sleep right there in your arms.
