challenges and joys of adoption. two days later their house in t darnestown cau fire. they were home enjoying family time when they niced a unusual flame by the fireplace. >> all of a sudden i saw s littke coming out of the, looked like the mantle. >> reporter: they grabbed a fire extinguisher, but it wasn't enough. the flames spread quickly. everyone was able to escape with all the pets. >> my son grayson was asleep upstairsnd he woke up with the room with smoke and, you know, he had a panic attack because all of a sudden his house was an fire. >> reporter: their tree and prents were allokay, but the family was forced to spend christmas eveway from home. >> whether it went up in flairs or not, i just -- flames or not, i knew the water and the damage that does and stuff like that. iust really thoughte didn't have a home. >> reporter: fortunately, the damage was nots coadulsd have been. >> this is where we first started seeing the smoke charring. >> reporr: the fireplace and wall have been cordoned off.

complications of that virus. ys keep more people from getting sick the school hey will be expanding efforts to disinfect student rooms. contractors will be cleaning all surfaces inside the dorms, suites, and apartments there on campus. supreme court justice ruth bader ginsberg is out of the hospital. sheunderwent cance surgery last week. the cancer was removed from he lung. her left lung. doctors say they were able to remove all of the disease. the cancer wasft discovered she broke her rib in a -- ribs, raer, in a fallt the supreme court last month. eeis is the third time the 85-year-old has treated for cancer. and despite her health problems, ginsberg has never missed a day of arguments. the court is set to meet on january. tonight a peopl being urged to stay way from the coast over concerns of more seve weather in indonesia. as nbc's sarah harmon reports, ndreds have died and the desperate search for

half of the dogs at the hunt club near frederick svived the fire. as news4's mark seagraves exrsains, neigh and first responders worked together to save as many dogs as they could. >> reporter: nestled in the scenic hills, middletown valley beagles has been raising huntinn dogs more t 50 years. the night before christmas about 25 beagles were living in this kennel on the large farm. just before midnight abrire e out, many of the beagles trapped in the burning building. dr. brooks ahalt arrived as the fire was being put out and neighbors as well as first responders were trying to care for the injured dogs. >> there was probably 15 dogs in the house being held by members of the club. kids from 14 to adults thatre 70 trying to care for them until i got thore. >> rr: the man who runs the kennel fought the plablaze

an emergency school board meeting is underway after the treatmen of a new jersey high school wrestler gained national attention. the wrestleras given an ultimatum by the referee before the matchuto c h forfeit the ma. 16-year-old andrew johnson had 90 seconds to make a decision. so he ended up having someone come o and cut his hair and then he went on to actually win that match. new jersff sports oials have sidelined the referee and opened up a civil rights investigation into the incident. tonight the school board meeting will likely decide the ref's fate in their district. the wrestler's parents are thanki the community and others for showing him so much support after that video went viral. gofundme says it has returned all of the donations ma on its sit to a fake fundraiser for a homeless veteran. it all began with a video here
