the vehiclesnt slammed each other on indian head highway at wilson bridge drive. three children were killed, two adults jured. news4's nicole jacobs just arrived on the scene. nicole what do we know? tonight? we learned >> reporter: erika, unfortunately, the deadly o dangers indian head highway have sadly and tragically suck yet again, this time children, three of them have died. you can s her behind me both directions of indian head highway are shut down as emergency crews continue to work this very intense and eensive sce scene. just beyond those emergency vehicles are theth vehicle were actually involved in this crash. again, the prince georgeme fire depart confirming three children have died. two adults wereed transpoo a trauma center. we don't know the ages of those involved in ts crash. based on social media updates,

nicole, thank you. more details on this awful tragedy. indian head highway, as you know is one of the most dangetcus sts of roadways in our region, and we've given you these statistics before.he according to maryland state highway administration, more inn 60 people have died crashes over the last 11 years. to address the issue, transportation leaders installed a speed camera back in october, and they also started enforcing speeding fines. stay with news4 and our nbc a washingt for the latest developments on this deadly crash. news4 today will bring you the latest information starting at 4:00 a.m., and we'll get a live update from nicole a little later in thibroadcast. stay with us for that. meanwhile, also breaking in oxon hill toni a man found shot to death outside a home. officers found the mando gunned here on mystic avenue. it's unclear if heid lived ie that home. we're told he died at the scene. right now offics are combing through evidence, trying to figure out why someone opened fire. so far no arrests have been

we go back to that breaking news in oxon hill, whe children are dead after a crash. this happened on indian head highway and wilson bridge drive. news4's nicole jacobs live once again from the scene with an update for us. nicole? >> reporter: erika, just tragedy here on oxon hill highway. of course we know how notoriously dangerous this stretch of road is, and we see th yet again night. you can take a look here behind me and see the extensive scene.e have not been able to get an update from police at this point, although we're told that could come or n it may come. they're still trying to gather as much information as they can well. you can see both sides of indian head highway s completelyt down as emergency crews continue to work the scene. if you're still taking a a look live pictures here, you can see

some of those vehicles involved just there in the distance. i c tell you the fire department confirming three children have died. two adults were transpotred to a ma center. we don't know the ages of those involved, and we don't know what caused this terrible crash, but based on social media updates from the fire department, those three children were trapped in the vehicle. the two adults were as well, but were extricated and then again taken to the trauma center, the pio for the fire department twting just a sho time ago, "there are no wordso describe this crash, except to say it is a trdedy." ou can see the remnants of those vehicles left behind here. you can see just how horrible it was. we'll continue to keep you updated here on the scene. as soon ase get more information. erika? >> it really is an awful scene. you can barely make out the vehicles there behind you. just a mangled mess of metal.

nicole jacobs live fors in oxon hill for us tonight, nicole, thank you. meanwhile, an escaped lion has killed an intern at a north carolina zoo. th 22-year-old recent college grad from indiana was cleaningt animal enclosure this afternoon. she had been on j the jobt ten days. the conservator's center said one of the lions somehowoc escad ad space in burlington. this is about an hour outside of raleigh. apparently the l entered the area where the intern was and it quickly killed her. >> i think it was instantaneous. i think -- if i remember right, yeah, as soon as he got out of the enclosure, he went straight toward her. >> the lion had to be p down. family members say alex was beautiful, intelligent, nd passionate,hey know that she died following her passion, carrying for animals, and that this was just a terrible

accident. after six people were hurt at bwi from a jet bridge failure, the airport says it's replacing several other tobridg. day crews inspected all of the airpt's bridges whi attach the airporterminal to t plane, and they determined that a defective metal bracket prompted last night's incident. at the time of the equipment failure, paramedics were responding to a sick passenger on board a flight. the six people, who had minor injuries,roere released f the hospital this morning. two big concerns for tomorrow night's ball drop in times square, weather and tcurity. it's probably goinbe raining at midnight for the first time in 24 years. so that's not going to be fun. and for the first time, new york city police will be using drones for new year's eve. police are pairing the drones with the more than one thousand surveillance cameras citywide, and the drones are going to help monitor the more than 100,000 people that will squeeze into
