coverage off tonigiv at the desk. leon? >> well, jim and doreen, for the first time since the began, major players from both sides met today, face-to-face, for over an hour, but they di t't get anywhere it hour. and now, on the eve of a new congress taking over, there are no sig this shutdown is going to end any time soon. no cameras were allow the situation room for what the white house called a border security briefing. sources tell nbc news democrats kept directing the conversation away from the border and back to ending the shutdown. as soon as they regahe control of house tomorrow, democrats are promising to introduce a bill to reopen the government. it's a very similar bill that passed the senate two weeks ago withy broad republican support. but senate republicans have already refused to bring a new bill up for a vote. earlierrrett haake said on news 4, we could be counting theshutdown in day weeks, not d.
