welcome back to news4 midday. a young girl turned a difficult experience into kids ing positive f the hospital. >> news4's barbara harrison intruces us to the 16-year-old who is now paying it forwarhi >> reporter:was three years ago, not long after 13-year-old meg gallagher was diagnosed with leukemia. >> i heard someone sd leukemia but i didn't know what that meant. >> she had been not feeling well for a couple weeks. she was a te-ager, i thought she was making it to get out of school. >> reporter: but it turned out to be very serious. >> they were able to tell under the microscope she hadke la cells in her blood. >> i remember it was scary and i remember why was i on the floor with people with cancer. i saw w people whoe bold.

>> her mom explained what was happening. >> she was trying in the shower. i told her to st. i didn't want anybody to cry. >> meg told her mother she wanted to turn that difficult holiday memory into something positive, collecting toys and gifts for kids here at the kildren's hospital where meg had spent so mas recovering. she started meg's very merry ve gick while she was still a patient. her cart these days is overflowing with gifts ofll ages. her favorite on this ct was a p line toy she remembers seeing another patient have while schoofs in the hospital. her favorite time is passing out the gifts. little kelly wasn't in the mood for visitors until the right toy e peared and then shwas ready to give a high five thank you. the gallagher's basement is filled all year these days with word having gotten out via meg's facebook >> the 23rd is going to be a

pretty hard day for my family. school has ther's made an annual tradition of collecting toys, which now get passed out twice a year, oncen december, one in july. this family was waiting for their young granddaughterd who ha just undergone surgery for a broken leg. meg chose her favoriteft that zip line doll, to leave for her. taylor mccoy was barely awake but managed to smile to say thank you for the wonderful surprise. her parents were grateful. >> it's just incredible to have that st of surprise after everything we've been through, it has been a very long 24 hours. >> meg remembers when she looked so forward to any surprise that someone would bring to her in the hospital. that's why she loves giving. ba >> actually i'd say it's more fun to give because i like to make people happy aik put a smile on their face and know that you're making their day a little bit better.

hopefully a pops of sun will make their way into the beltway area and the greater washington region. we do have a little bit of a wind out there, ndsthwest w 10 to 20 miles an hour. they still settle at 5:00 or 6:00 tonight and unfortunately more rain on the way. that leads to the firstart of saturday. but it's not going to be a washout for the weekend. sunday's going to be absolutely gorgeous. temperatures now 51 for daytime highs. today more cloudhan sunshine, becoming breezy. we're seeing that wind pick up right now and th's, as i saying going to be with us through the evening. still plenty of clouds, rain will move in through late evening. most of e day will be dry. rain moving in after about 5:00 tonight. youan see that little bit of rain that we had earlier today in the southeaster suburbs has slipped well to the south. by tomorrow evening we'll start to seehat rain pushing in here and then rain will continue
