way. when you'll see the first drops at your house is coming up on thst future in just a few minutes. hi, good morning. welcome to"news4 midday" on this first friday of 2019. m erika gonzalez. we want to begin with an unusual smash and grab in the district. thieves using a u-haul truck to crash through the window of a mo le store, going into back office windows and part of the store. this is in the shopping center near the d.c. cost co imi you'r ar with that area. chris lawrence has the story. >> reporter: detectives are looking at the footage from the surveillance cameras to try to determine who pulled this off. me of the workers are trying to clear away some of the debris from what was a pretty brazen theft. when you look at some of the damage there, it's a good thing

that no one was working late at night. right now police think someone stole a u-haul truck and used it as a battery ram to basically plow lieu tthrough the back of t-mobile store. it broke through the glass, collapsing metal and even separated the interior wall as well,he part that leads into the store. ere are surveillance cameras all over here that likely captured a lot of this on tape. >> i'm a customer and an employee who works here. >> reporter: right around new york avenue and southaka avenue is the aa where you've got lowe's, cost co's so a big shopping center here. it looke like the thieves plowed the u-haul to the back.
