justin good morning. >> reporter: eun, aaron, good morning. of course right now a lot of concern about food stability from groceries and soodmps down to school lunches. and this morning, we're hearing more about ways efforts are being made to cover those gaps. a lot of anxiety, of course, about food stamps right now. we are hearing that snap or food stamp benefits will be covered reserve funding until at least february. aat's very good news f lot of people, but the future after that remains unseen. we are hearing this affects more than 19 million families from coast to coast. here at home, fairfax county public schools announcing that breakfast and lunch will beade available to all students even if they can't pay right now temporarily because of this shutdown here. those unpaid balances will be allowed to accrue. and also this week in fairfax county, that school system announcing they'll hold a hiring ident on , what would have been a payday for furloughed

the russian investigation and for possible coordination with the trump campaign in 2016. jury h already convicted manafort in alexandria for federal financial crimes. we have breaking news right now. officials are investigating suspicus packages delivered to australiconsulates in our chris lawrence is at the live desk with more. euris, what's going on? >> reporter: the u.s. consulate in melbourne received one of thoseuspicious packages. in a statement we're told they handled the package according to standard procedure and coordinated with the local authorities. we're als hearing from the british consulate in melbourne hey also received a suspicious package and say it was actually, quote, ticking. so far officials are only saying they're investigating suspicious packages at several consulates across australia. the important thing to know here, no one has beein red. all this happening just a couple days after a suspicious white powder was discovered in a package at the argentine consulate in that one did not contain any

poison or toxins. >> chris, thank u. it's 5:08. this morning we're getting our first look at a sketch of a man accused of assaulting two little girls in fairfax county. megan fitzgerald is live at fairfax policeeadquarters with more on this story. megan? >> reporter: eun,hat's exactly right. good morning to you. police released a sketch. they want as many people as possible to take a look at this guy so they can hopefully catch him before he strikes again. so, we want to show you that picture. they believe that this is the guy who groped a young child. he's a hpanic male. described as a man between his 30s and 40s. he's about 5'6" and has a heavy build.s now, it on saturday when these two girls, one 11, the other13, were walking to take out the trash in their quiet neighborhood, which i right near braddic elementary school when this man allegedly approached them, groping the younger one, attempting to gro the older one before she fought back and he took off.

the family of renee green says she is disabled for life. they blame faultsy electrical wiring. mgm filed a motion askg for more detailed information. thed initial complaint fy green's family was too vague. iey called the response baseless and saidwas a tactic to delay a trial. news 4 reached out to mgm for comment. we have not heard back. in the past the resort has called the incident a trady and said it is committng to reachi a resolution with the family. it's now 5:15. topping newsh for your hea this morning, a much welcomed update about the fight against cancer. right now fewer americans are dying from the disease than ever before. in fact, the country is seeing the lowest cancer death rate in 25 years. a significant drop in cigarette smoking an advances in early detection and treatment are some of the reasons behind thedrop. news from the study wasn't all promising. economically pooras still have higher cancer mortality

this evening. there's your planner fors tomorrow well. more sun but more wind tomorrow and even colder. highs in th 40s today, highs in the 30s tomorrow. what about that weekend snow chance? future weaer extended out into the weekend now. saturday morning will start off dry. might have some sunshine, but close auickly move in snow is likely to be in place by the time the sun goes down on saturday. the best time to accumulat snow will be overnight saturday night into sunday morning. sunday afternoon, the snow should be tapering off by mid to late in the afternoon and it should all be out of here in time for mondaymorning. but, there's a pretty high chance that we're going to have to be dealing with some shoveling. so howowuch the odds of an inch or more, i'm very confident we can get at leas an inch ofsnow. 80% of at least an inch. four inches or more? 50/50. somewhere i 3 that to 6 inch range is the sweet spot for the forecast at this point. still five days away.

welcome back it's 5:39. changes to protect students in the classrooms. new law requires tougher background checks when hiring new>>teachers. t's the result of a news 4 iteam investigation. scott mack farland has nre. >> laws passed by d.c. council makes many changes, including aor new requirement d.c. schools. they have to do better background checks before hiring teachers. checking with all prior employers over the past 20 years. also requires them to tell future employers if a former teacher in d.c. engaged in sexual misconduct. this comes on the heels of a news 4 iteam investigation showed region wide several teachers have slipped through the cracks, admitting or being accused of engaging in sex misconduct but finding new teaching jobs in other local schocl districts. ing a prominent case in d.c. where a charter ishoolteacher ended up in for sex misconduct with a former student. the changes ordered . council and approved by the syor's office.
