> reporter: well, there were a lot of conversations in that courtroom. statementsade about brothers and brotherly love and prote protecting one another. and also questions o justice and whether justice has been served in this particular case. the sentences for michael ford, 195 years, his brother malik 20, his younger brother elijah 12 years. what came out in court is that thehofficer was some 30 seconds after a cease-fire and after michael ford was disarmed and on the ground. the colson family veryupset about the way this trial went. his mother said, io not understand for the life of me why officer tailor kraus killed my son. i ome to the realization that he was murdered because he was black. there was emotion and grief inside a prince george's county courtroom as family and friends

describe the loss of police officer colson. he whot and killed by another officer in 2016 it happened after a chaotic exchange after michael ford opened fire on the police station. in court ford said it wasn attempt to commit suicide by cop. his brothers, malik and elijah pled guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. police say elijah recorded his video will. malik drove him to the police station and when healked in e wrong direction he wedirected him to the right police station. en colson's parents the opportunity to address the court, they said thecu proon was incomplete and tarnished. they called the trial rigged. cols's father said whatever sentence you impose to the rds, taylor krause, the officer accused of shooting

i'm erika gonzalez at the live desk with the latest on day 20nm of the govert shutdown. two fortunate milestones ahead. tomorrow federal workers miss their first paycheck. and saturday this will become the longest. shutdown in u history. with democrats standing firm in their refusal to provide more than $5 billion for a border wall, there are mountingin cations that president trump plans to bypass congress and declare a national emergency so
