for sure. there's yr.r plan temperatures staying below freezing until 11:00 this morng. it will be barely above freezing during the day today. the storm, as i've been mentioning, is coming out in t parts. part one in missouri, part two in west xas. that's why the forecast is a tricky one. the second wave is likely to deliver snow only to part of the area. which part? mainly south o that's where the winter storm watches are at this point. that saturday into sunday. snowfall amounts will vary a little bit. here's our local forecast modell this goes up through pre-dawn sunday. i thi everybody has a chance for a solid 1 to 3 inches tomorrow. second wave is like lly to leave mor snow around the city. mostly coming tomorrow. a chance for moreh snow can p totals in that 3-5 inch range, around fredericksburg and culpepper and more snow in the mountains of west virginia. a check of the forecast and

the first payday since the gridlock began and no paychecks will be given out. >> nearly 1 million workers now face the reality of making mortgage pments or paying rent and utilities without that paycheck for workers, including machinists, treasury employees and workers that haven't worked since before christmas. some of them took to the streets yesterday to protest the shutdown. fley gathered around the aio headquarters and then went to the white house. their rallying cry, no paychecka no. >> i feel like a bum. today makes two weeks since the last time that i worked. it's only so much you can do. i'm literally unemployg >> we're try cut back on expenses. just trying to make it through. >> along with frustration, many in the crowd expressed hopelessness. they don't see mrey signs that blicans and democrats can find common ground to end the shutdown.

we know that president trump's former lawyer and fixer michael cohen wily publi testify in front of the house overnight and reform committee. that's scheduled for february 7th. last month, cohen was sentenced to three years in prison. his crimes include making secret payments to two women who say they had affairs with president trump and lying to congress about dealings with russia. his blind loyalty tohe president helped him cover up the dirty deeds. the associated press reports that troops have started withdrawing from oksyria. the man declined to discuss timelines or locations. lastre month,dent trump shocked u.s. allies prompting a dramatic resignation from jim mattis, saying isis was defeated

fire on prince george's county poce. michael called it an attempt of suicide by cop. yesterday, he received a 195-year stence. his brothers received 20 and 12 years. detective jacai colson was shot and killed by taylor krauss. krauss mistook colson for the suspec colsons are suing krauss and the police department. the colsons allege that the police chief and the former state attorney proteed krauss from criminal charges. brooks is the county executive. she released a statement saying, ultimately a grand jury of 23 prince georgians reviewed the id ce and declined to indict ss officer kr i can never begin to understand what they feel as grieving parents. krauss is employed by the police department, which would not comment on colsons accusations. after 5:00, a shocking development out of wisconsin this morning.

cigarettes. philip morris international says it will focus on smoke-free products in the long term. the company is not going tobacco-free just yet, saying they are committing to finding less harmful alternatives. no word on when it will phase out cirettes. those e-cigarettes are still harmful. s a lot of nicotine in them. a new study says that eating more fiber can help prevent an early death. researchers found that people who ate at least 25 grams of fiber a day has significantly lower rates of heart disease, diabetes and colon cancer. they had a 30% risk of n c dying from ase. the study was conducted by the world health organization. a promising, new treatment is giving hope to cancer patientsn our area. >> a maryland woman battled lymphoma for years, but after a new procedure that uses a patient's own cells to fight e cancer, in complete remission. amy cho has her story. >> i love seeing your smile.

crte. susan hogan is working 4 you to see what you can do to lessen the blow. >> reporter: that's right. a majority of furloughkers don't have enough savings. recent survey found that 78% of americans live ck payco-paycheck. for those of you with a mortgage, some lenngrs are offessistance programs to federal employees impacted by the shutdown, such as waiving late fees. but you need to contact your emnder immediately to let know of the situation. anr those of you who rent, contact propertyers or your landlord and see if you can thwork out a payment plan them or at the very least ask if they will waive a late fee for you, as well. the same thing goes wi credit card companies. don't wait until you payment is due. talk to them now and see if they will waive your late fee. and consider talking out a n. short-term l some banks are offering furlough loans to those employees who have paychecks deposited into a

today, either. frustrated furloughed workers took to the streets yesterday in protest. among them were machinist, treasury employees and contctors who haven't worked in three weeks. they gathered outside of the afl-cio headquarters and marched to the white house. the rallying cry, no paycheck, no peace. workers said they are feeling n'hopeless because it doeslook like republicans andemocrats will make a deal anytime soon. the president says if he doesn't receive the funding from congress, he will declare a national emergency. if families are struggling to payor groceries, there is relief on the way. we'll tell you where to receive free food.

justin finch is live in northwest washington with information about pop-up food markets. justin? >> reporter: that's right. this is coming atust the right time for so many furloughed workers and families, who are penny-pinching. what comes off of their list first is food. that should not be. that's why the capital area food bank is worng to ease that burden tomorrow. the preparations are under way, for the five pop-upke m across the dmv tomorrow morning. they will serve about 250 people peil location. we want to show you the maps so u can see where the pop-up markets are going to be. they have teamed up with grocery stores off of rockville, on rockville pike, off of richmond highway and off of allentownam road in springs.

defeated and he was pulling troops out of syria. we have about 2,000 troops in area. developing this morning, officials are investigating a hoax e-mail that threatened warren county public schools. the warren county shiff's office says the e-mail was sent yesterday by a resident in frederick county, virginia. we're told that the hoax e-maild stthere's a bomb at our school. officials say all of the public schools in warren county were searched and determined to be safe. no word on if the sender has been found. art the warren county sheriff's office wants to rom anyone who may know about this. humane rescue alliance needs your help finding a man who may be involved in an animal cruelty case. the humane rescue alliance received word about an amman danned dog on 62nd street. surveillance video hows a man hitting a dog, posbly with an
