bottom of the screen for theup tes. so far, kiddos, no school closures have been announced yet for monday but that could change. >> let's hope up the window and take a look several inches of snow have already fallen all across the onc. regi. >> this massive winter wther system, it is far from over. news 4 has full team coverage for the first snow blanket of 2019. storm team 4's clay anderson is outsid in the elements tracking the snowfall and outside our studios. >> we have our derrick wardinow montgomery countyracking snowy road conditions for those who cannot avoid traveling today but let's get a start with chief meteorologist doug kammerer who is tracking our storm as moves over the region, and it doesn't seem to be stping, doug. >> some light areas of snow, intermittent snow off and on and this will continue to pick up in thestfternoon. m team 4 radar tracking the storm for you.

any time you see the purples, darker pules, that's heavier snow. over the last couple of hours, this has definitely gotten lighter. more and more of the purple a more of the white areas. that's what is going on around the d.c. metro area.g look over towards bowie and the laurel area. right around college parks seei pretty goo snow there, and around clinton, maryland, a little bit of a dry area, and s we'rerting to see that mix in. this is what we talked about earlier this morning, that we a would see little bit of a lull over the next couple of hours. down to the south, still going strong. spotsylvania county and culpepper county seeing heavier snow as well. once again, a little bit of a lull as we start to seat upper level low make its way our way. the surface low energy off the coast here so a little lull there, but will come back during the day. everybody is still under a winter storm warning. that the goes until 6:00 inight. the potential there for another couple inches of snow depending on where you t are. let'e a look at this.

maybe 1 to 2 to the north and more likely an inch up here. it's really 2 to 4 around d.c. and leesburg and montgomery county and still a bullseye area. 4 to 6 inches more snow around waldorf and freuricksburg. olks down at st. mary's county 1 to 3 and parts of the coun to 4 and y'll get a little bit of mixing. again, this is the bullseyefr aa huntingtown over towards quantico, stafford and down towards fredericksburg. let's talk about how much snow we've seen. clay anderson outside. clerics you measured about 6 of snow three hours ag what do we have now? >> in excess of 6. i'll do the total in a few moments. across the area it's all about mentioning.doug w here in northwest washington we've exceed 6 inches of snow here. normally you're talking about areas in montgomery county, north and west where there's

more snow. owfall, snow totals actually closer to the district of cowmbia. more shan our northern morgsz of montgomery county, and a reason for that, the low pressure system system continues to bottom out and movti close s and we're starting to get more snow that moves in from the eastnd to the west remembering across the area, of course, when you're going out today, make sures that safety alw comes first across the region. temperatures right now in the 20s across the board. we're at 30 degrees here in the northwest. still some sleet possibly down to our south and east,ut temperatures for the tos across the area, and we'll measure somj snow int a minutes and i have to keep an eye on that guy and see if he grows. what do youhink, adam? maybe he might grow. we'll keep an eye on that. >> that car right there absolutely. >> just impressed by the artwork there. >> and i had nothing to do with that. >> but your beret i is stilln style and we've got #clayberet going on. >> reporter: then they don't put

bit easier certainly than the sa roads in arlington. 66 was rough getting out here to tis, a slow go, 30, 40 miles per hour, with just few cars on the roads. plows are out trying to make an effort to clear this but it's difficult and making it treacherous for some of thes fof you're trying to back through here. a lot of sidewalks covered. it's a sunday morning. enjoying it indoors with a warm cup of cove, hot chocolate or something. this is how i know it woul be for a while, guys. snow is going to be lingering. they mnded all of this here. this is one ofe: i'll try the climb. i did the health and fitness expo yesterday and i'm feeling pretty fit and if i'm out of breath it is because of the altitude but not nothing to did with yourg. condition how far do you want me to go, this is pretty high up, and this is oan of the mounds that's going to be building around here. they have got two, three inhis

snow to come on in. earlier we saw some plows. peopleere working toet the parking spaces cleared so people can come out and eat a i also want to give you a look at how the roads are looking. the main roads have been plowed. the side roads, they are still getting to those, but even on the roads that have been plowed, still very slippery and tough to mentioned it's i tough to see the lane markers, saw a lot of cars who wer driving between lanes or even making their own lanes and definitely be careful. maryland state police says they respono about 118 crashes within the past 12 hours so if you are headed out this morning, obviously do be careful. we'll stay out here all morning and monitor these conditions and how things are look. guys, we'll send it back to you. >> amy, thank you very much. stay safe out there. c our teamerage continues even more. we head to prince george's county where we'll check in with derrick ward. hey, derrick. how is it going? >> hey. good, good. we're actually in monomery county, we're moving around and

welcom, back to our team coverage of the first major snowfall of 201. we have the lk of therish. i was about to say. this is the highly anticipated moment we've all beenaiting for. pat collins on a sunday on tv. good morning, pat. you're on connectic avenue this morning. >> reporter: indeed, meagan, adam. good morning. finally, finally a stick worthy snow in our city. let's take a look at what's around here. this is connecticut avenue. you can see the asphalt. it's slush. it's easy pisi on connecticut avenue, but take a look down the side street fesenden.

there's john conor trying to clear away for his gas station and it's a winter wonderland and hazas walking on the sidewalks. let's go take a quick measurement. our first measurement. day here atne cicut and fesenden around 9:15, and we have about 6.5 inches of snow here at 9:15. now, this is the official pat collins snow stick. it's the only way to really measure snow in washington. why, i think i'm more accurate than national airport. you know, o -- on one side other we have markings of the big snows we've had in the history our city and then, of course,ngs to measure snow of the day, so we have a little bit of historynd a little bit of the now. pat collinsofficial snow stick. later on i'll tell you how you can get one of your very own because we have a brand-new snow

has stopped forit ae bit but it's coming right back in. height snowc. around. area and which are n where there's the darker purples, there's heavier snow. back towards fauquier county, and this is the area i still expect to see the s heaviestw throughout rest day. where your totals will continue to go up. y look to the west, what aim watching with the storm system? this is tev upper low that's going to continue to move in and continue to eance our snowfall right on through the lull. we'll see it moveas back in. he upper low moves in closer it fills back in. south'sowards st. ma county. you folks have already seen some sleet and some freezing rain. that will continue to move into parts of the area. by late today that moves out as well. you go back over to snow and everybodyees a little bit

more. how much more? well, oneo two possibly. really more like 1 around frederick. d.c. 2 to 4 inches and 4 t 6 waldorf to fredericksburg and these numbers will continue go as it goes on through the day. these numbers will drop because this is additional snowfall. around the d.c. area, downtown thinking 6 inches and around d.c. here in northwest, i'm expecting a full 10nches of snow in that area. 36d degrees on your monday cool conditions through the week. a chilly week but not terrible. we will be able to melt some of the sw and then we get to next week thursday and friday overnight and we'll see the orm bring u a little bit of snow and then storm watching again. big storm, rape, snow, something that we'll be tracking for you. the chance there for big storm. behind it we get gd ain. winterga,

towards the frederick area. d.c., still thinking another 2 inches, maybe or 4 in isolated spots. areas of moderate snoas aroun pep hill. making its way up towards 29, savage, maryland area and laurel hills. lighter snow in and around the d.c. metro area. darkurple right here. look at these bands around fruktsburg and stafford county and culpepper county moving into charles county as well. we'll ton watch that, too. this storm system has a long wa. to here in d.c., the upper level low is way back to the west and it's coming all across our region and tt's whyt's snowing all day off and on. once again thew heaviest s will be south of fredericksburg and we're also seeg some mixture in extreme southern portions of extreme st. 'sma county. lease burks 5.6 inches of snow

easily. it's not hard or packed in or anything and it's easy for you tires to get through. howeve the bad news is this is not the type of snow for make snowballs. rtunately there won't be any snowball fights just as of yet. as far as rides want to give you a look at roads. the main roads such as green belt roado appear to be r,plowed. howeat ones that have been plowed are still very slippery. not much traction. also it's tough to see the lane markings so drivers are driving in between lanes orhe making own lanes, we saw a lot of that this morning so do be careful if you're headed o onhe roads this morning s marylandtate police have responded to 11 cshes over the past few a hours we've found our snowplow friend, the green snowplow clearing all the snowy and buses are open here at the beltwayza m mall

our team coverage of the 2019 first significant snowfall, it continues. >> we have our crews spread out all a the area. let get back in touch with derrick ward who is live in montgomerycounty. are you alonge? rockville pik what are you seeing out there? >> reporter: well, i'll tell you what. what w s areing is traffic that can indeed move down the pike pretty easauy. that's b they have been hitting this from snowplows all night, all morning so far, and they plan to keept up as long has this storm keeps up. take a look. you can look at the surface here. kind of slushy. not had a big problem though especially if you've got good tires. just got to be careful and something i've noted just standing here. you should clean off the back of your cars, the rear lights so people can seeour brake lights and emergency flashers. saw a car coming down here. the snow w ove the back lights, and the car behind him couldn't really see if this person mas going toe a turn. nothing happened but that just brought toind something you should do. take a look at the streets we shot earlier in the they are the secondary roads

where the plows haven't gotten yet, and they were passable but pretty snowy, so, you know, ou might have some issues getting in and of parking spaces and once the plows get there and up get t ridge of snow that you have to sometimes bust through with your vehicle and caution is indeed the order of the day if you're going to venture out but don't. officials want to make suree tht thnowplows can come out and run the snowplow action through the streets and make sure they are clear enough because they have an eye towards tomorrow. they need to make sure the streets are passable. this being a sunday snowfall. you tonight have a lot of traffic and that's a good thing as they try to cle the roads and it there's not a lot of traffic to contend with because you don't want to be changing lanes or making quick movements when you've got services like we havell over the area.
