>> reporter: yeah, jim, that's right. now, officers, this entire incident unfold justehind us here in broad daylight. we're told that that officer shot and killed that suspect in an alley which is right near the silver spring metro, then they taped off the entire area near wain avenue because they were trying to o figure if this guy had a bomb. scary momenunfolding in downtown silver spring just before 11:00 this morning. >> i looked up and iee so many police officers coming down. >> scary. >> reporter: dozens of montgomery count police officers surrounding wain avenu and blocking off parts ofe coldvioad after a gunman tried robbing the bb&t bank. >> walked into the bankma ger's office, stated he had a bah bomb in his backpack. he also lifted up his coat and displayed an. hand >> reporter: the assistant police chief said the suspect

demanded $20,000 in cash. but the manager managed to hit the panic button to alert police and the suspect took off.pe ch 4 was flying above the scene moments after the suspect was spotted an officer. >> he was confronted by a montgomeol countye officer who observed the suspect with the backpack on. there was a confrontation. the suspect was then shot. >> reporter: she was nearby when it happened. surrounding office buildings were evacuated and roads blocked off while the bomb squad investigated the suspect's backpack. >> i'm trying to go to the train station to get a bus to go to work. >> reporter: it was a disruption for a lot o folks but in the end everyone aside but the suspect was safe. >> soundsike something from a movie. >> reporter: now police say they recovered an item inside that backpack that was designed to look like a bomb but

company defend th? >> yeah, that's the sticker shock a lot of people have. and i sat downith the ceo and asked him some of those tough questions, how do they come up with that price. and they said they looked at what vision is worth. and that's sort of how they came up with this price of $850,000. the company hasn't been profitable yet. they're developing me gene therapies for the future. it's wha people would pay for it, but thathe begs question, then, and this was covered by insurance and it's a one time treatment. but how much of a bden does that put on the insurance companies which then they pass along to the rest of us? it's a question we're going to be looking at because this is just the first gener y. there are dozens now in the works including some where they're saying the price will probably be $5 million or so. and so it's a question that we're looking at very closely

now at 5:30, a police officer shot and killed at a bank robbery in downtown silver spring. today officersay a man demanded $2,000 in cash. the gunman ran off without taking any money. a montgomery police officer confronted him outside, shot police checked for explosives in the man's backpack and didn't find anything.

prince georgia's county government, claims of prisoner abuse. under fire in a lawsuitin all prisoner abuse. the suit filed last week in federal court says during ms. he er's detention at pgcc was targeted, attacked punished and subjected to mane and dangerous conditions by the defendants. the suit goes onto name officers and the jail sing ms. carter was unjustifiably placed in four int restraints by correctional officers, physically attacked by another and forced trite on herself while shackled to the bench herself. it happened in august 2017. the suit goes to say carter was punched in the face while shackled. according to the suit the punch to ms. carter's face was required medical attention, aee
