chris gordon is live this afternoon with more. the neighbors say this ntersection is particularly dangerous, right? >> reporter: absolutely. leon and pat, the crash happened right here along route 27, the road from damascus to mount airy. now police tell us that it happened, the car was traveling in t t direction but failed t make that right-hand curve you see below me and went into the left lane, hitting an oncoming car head on. friends are praying forhe victims of this fatal car crash, the drivef the car that's sideways died on the scene. his femaleassenger was rushed by medevac helicopter to shock trauma in baltimore. after surgery she remains in critical conditi but police tell me she is expected to survive. the driver of the other, c which was traveling in the southbound lane of route 27 is in critical condition.
