government has been fully op ed. the partial shutdown is over and things here in our area are starting to return to normal. let's take a livook at the national mall. we'reur about an nd a half ago the national park service announced the national mall and memorialarks will resume regular operations tomorrow. starting on tuesday tourists will be able to visit the museums on the mall. that includes all of the euithsonian m and the national zoo. the national park service says all of their sites will have normal operations on tuesday as well. meanwhile, furloughed employees preparing to rurn to rk don't know how long the government will remain open. e bill president trump signed last night only includes funding for three weeks. nbc's chris pollone on the uncertainties still in the air. >> federal workers are relieved. >> it feels exciting to go back to work, to harp a e. >> but they don't have relief. government is back open, checks have not yet gone out.lthen, fo

jose andres and other chefs in this chefs for feds program. i spoke to one worker here this afternoon, who like many, had to dip into his savings to pay he has missed two paychecks now. that's the situation many workers are in. so getting this donated food helps in offsetting some o those costs. and he says, this has helped build morale and a sense of community. >> i'm very grateful that people from the private sector and outside the governmentll are g to help the people who are affected by this. the 800,000 employees in the government affected by the shutdown. because we did nothing to incur the pain that we've endured by the government being shut down. >> so this is a huge effort. 6:ke i said, the doors just closed at . but the chef has indicated this effort will continue as long as there isneed. and there still is a need we did see people coming in here toy. taking advantage of the free food. because like we said, the government will open, buthey still have not been paid.

prince william county. it happened last night at the potomac mil mall. firefighters say no one was inside at the time. authorities also say theire was accidental. but they are not seeing how it started. cleaning up the park. volunteers spreading out across fletchers cove park in the palisades area of northwest d.c. thear national service hasn't been able to maintain it. and the park has become nover with storm run-off from the potomac. >> they rose with the sun to come to the cove. beautiful place to be, but -- the chain saws sawing made it clear they had come not just to marvel at nature, but to undo some of its mischief. the potomac has made a mess of things. >> there's wood everywhere. going into your messy room that you're goile to up, where do you start? >> it's a natural process, since the b river hn running, it's done this.

at fletchers cove, in northwest, derek ward, news4. as der showed us, the shutdown may have ended, but the acts is of kindness have not. volunteers in clinton, maryland, made 900 free lunches for fe cral workers andtractors at the tree of life christian ministries. part of the money came from a federal contractor who won't be getting back pay, but still wanted to help those less fortunate. >> we're going to make sure that we can feed as many people as we possibly can. these are the people that really need our support. so we're here toho give folks the support that they need. a the organizers say if the government shuts dgain in three weeks, they plan to put on another free lunch. andfo more hel furloughed workers, the capital area food bank handing out groceries, folks stopped by a giant store in northeast waon. the food bank has sets up pop-up markets to assist people during the shutdown. organizers said the initial demand was overwhelming.
