6:16 pm
to work andhe wor they love to do. but their belief that the uncertainty of when that next paycheck is coming in has been taken ce of. >> reporter: now he was also telling us that rangers received a very nice welcome from t public today. people coming up to them and thank them and telling them how happy they were that they are back at work, as well. cory, back to you. >> all right, darcy spencer for us live on the national mall. darcy, thank you so much. despite the govt being reopened, furloughed workers are still doing what they can to make ends meet. dozens turned out at this marketplace in prince george's county to support those who haven't been getting paid for over theth last m all sorts of interest took part here. itks l like your run-of-the-mill farmer's market, but every vendor is a federal worker or aontractor. thowed customers to buy directly from vendors who have been furloughed. >> it's been hard for our family, however, we are glad to be back.
6:17 pm
monday morning traffic should be a happy commute. >> people had a chancto b everything from desserts to jewelry. even the furlough sisters we set up. the furlough federal workersho started selling their cheesecakes to get by. those cheesecakes are very, very i had one myself. all right. the monday morning commute going to be nice. it's that tuesday, wednesday area that's looking a little dicey. >> absolutely, ice-dicey, in fact. we could s a hard freeze. we've got to get through tomorrow. tomorrow will be relatively pleasant, but it's still goi be a cold start with temperatures dropping below freezing, including insid the beltway. let's go ahead now and get a look at current temperatures. hard to believe, looking at numbers so close to 50, right? 47ight n in washington, d.c., we're at 41 in gaithersburg. manassas, what's going on?n 43 degrees d there. so tonight temperatures are going to drop into the 20s, which means you are waking up to conditions tomorrow morning in the upper 20s, as well. f good deal sunshine tomorrow. clouds are going to build in on the back end of the day, jus ahead of our next system.
6:18 pm
but throughout the day, not bad. mperatures upper 30s i think in washington, d.c. we coulday hit 40, 41 degrees for sure. and then things kind of just -- bottom just drops out after lnday. here is ak at tuesday. we're starting at 3:00 p.m. now remember, wre still a little bit of a ways away from tuesday, so we could see the timing on this fluctuate a bit. but i think the big picture is what we're searching for right now. p.m. rain starts to move into the district. notice how quickly that's changing over, seeing that surge of cold air pushing t iing it from rain to snow. so you might be driving in the evening through rain, changing over to snow farther west you gv in theing, the more likely it will be just snow. now,e get blanketed throughout the entire region until about 9:30, 10:00. it will start toake its way east of 95, and then move out of here by wednesday morning. even though that is short-lived, remember the time frame is hitting and it's going to be having major impact on that evening commute on tuesday.
6:19 pm
how much snow are we talking? s going to be i a wet snow. we're looking at 1 to 2 inches. so anything greater tn that, pretty much a long shot at this point, unless you go farther north and west of the district. now, the big issue, as i said, is going to be dving conditions. monday, you're a-okay. tuesday, p.m. rain and snow. now, depending on how quickly that cold air surges in here, we could be talking a hard freeze or flash freeze there. so we would be seeing ice, not only tuesday utnight, also for the wednesday morning commute. something to really keep in mind. now, beyond that system, we've got arctic air moving in. drop on going to tuesday from the 40s very quickly down into the 30s and 20s for high on wednesday and thursday. but you factor in that wind going to be ar feeling more like the single digits. your storm team 4 ten-day outlook over the next couple of days. a lot of changes there with the numbers. take a look at the conditions. tuesday that evening commute probably going to be a messy one. now, as we move through wednesday and thursday, it's
6:20 pm
just the cold we have to worry about that's reallyoing to bite. but check out that warmup next weekend. >> not bad. you kno sunshine pictures than there are the clouds so we'll take the small victories when we can. thanks. the hoyas put on a show at the garden, thanks to [music playing] (sashimi) psst. hey, you! the one with the designer dog coar. wondering how i upgraded to this sweet pad? a 1,200-square-foot bathroom, and my very own spa.
