roads in montgomery county. shomari stone begins ourive team coverage in bethesda. shomari, how are the roads there looking? >> reporter: the rain turned to snow during thevening commute. at least an inch has fallen and the slick roads in some areas. right now many streets are freezing, especially secondary ads in some neighborhoods in montgomery county. tonight people tell us they're concerned about driving to work on icy roads tomorrow morning. >> people need to be safe because this area doesn't know how to deal with snow. unless you've gone to college like i have in the midwest and snow and all that kin of stuff, you know how to do it. if you don't, don't do it. >> reporter: so what are you going to do tomorrow morning? >> have a cupe f cofd then i'm going to go to work. >> okay. >> reporter: right now, make

sure that you give yourself plenty of time if you plan on goin to work and taking your kids to school. the good news is that there is a delay.r we're now joined by my colleague news 4 f darcy spencm reston. darcy? >> reporter: well, shomari, i can tel you that the snow stopped falling out here in reston a couple of hours ago, but the temperatures have continued to fall. we can feelre the dife being out here from what it felt like earlier today. take a look at this banner here. you can see it whipping in the wind. so we're already seeing that. and it feels very cold out here. i want to show you what the roads look like. this is one of the ssondary streight off the reston parkway. it looks very dicey and it's only going to get worse in the morning. the roads wet and slushy now, but with temps taking a t,dive overni all this could be ice when you head to work and school in the morning. some drivers are already planning for problems. >> because they said it's supposed to get down to in the

that's the latest from fairfax. back to you. >> chrisordon reporting. thank you. today's winter weather is already responsible for a deadly crash in fauquier county. a 22-year-old man from woodbridge died when he lost control on sowego road right near the prince william william stafford county line. some crashes in the first 90 minutes of the snowstorm in fauquier county. new tonight, the office of personnel managemen says that most federal workers furloughed during the shutdown will receive paychecks byhursday. now, some of you began gmuting those -needed checks today. the national zoo re-opened day, as did smithsonian museums, including the national museum of african-american history and culture. director lonnie bunch personally welcomed back visitors as they arrived today. >> people love what they do here and they almost feel like, yes, not getting paid was horrible,

mother dead at their home along mariana drive in aspen hill. family tells us his mother worked at hotel downtown. officers went to the house this morning after she didn't showr p work. they found the victim with trauma to her body and herod so with bnd cuts to his hands. police have not said how she died or released a possible motive. also in montgomery county, two friends and rect college graduates were found shot to death inside a car. we showed you the scene from chopper 4 last night as breaking news. police are still releasing few details about what happened to christian roberts and jordan radway, just that they were found shot inside the car just off stewart lane in white oak. one of the boy's godmothe tells us that the family is crushed. >> what are you going toos remember about jordan?

>> this funloving personality. his sweetness. >> there is a vigil planned for the two victims this friday at paint branch high school where they were teammates on the school's basketball team. the vigil will follow friday's game. new at 11:00 tonight, a heated debate in maryland's legislature over whether you should have the right to say when your life ends. it's been a long debate, a billh called death w dignity. supporters wore yellow t-shirts today ashey spent time lobbying lawmakers. it is the fourth year this measure's bee reintroduced. it's backers say they have abo 60 co-sponsors for the bill. that bill would require a termy ill adult witix months or less to live the right to end their life with the help of a doctor, but the bill has its opponents. >> the bill puts all of the vulnerable populatio in our society at risk, the ill, the elderly, those suffering from

tonight we're hearing from the family of a fairfax county 3rd grader killed in a tragi accident at school. >> wesley died back in may. he was helping a teach operate a large motorized wall at francona elementary school. his grandmother is pleading with state lawmakers to pass legislation to help prevent a tragedy like the one that claimed wesley's life. >> news 4 consumer investigative hporter susanan tonight has been following this story from the very beginning and she has an update you will see only on news 4. well, we were in richmond as a state delegate introduced his bill that he drafted right aft wesley's death and after our investigation. they wereom and dad, also there along with a lot of their friends and family. all of them shere toport wesley's grandmother, who made a passionate plea for change.

miles an hour. so our currentinhill, well, that's down into the single digit. 8 in martinsburg, 17 in d.c. it is a very cold night. yeah, it's going to get a lot colder tomorrow night. there is the rain and snow we had across the area. 1 to 3 inches in areas west of i-95, especially loudoun, montgomery county, alleporting 3 inches of snow. now it's melting. nothingn the radar now, but we have a chance for snow tomorrow. current temperature, 29, d.c., 29 gaithersburg. that's why we're seeing the ice and so many schools have cancelled or delayed tomorrow because othe ice out there. not the main roads for the most part, but the secondary roads, the roads you live on, the neighborhood roads, those are t the onest are going to have ice especially into some sidewalks, too. what is wet will become ice. that's going to be the rule of the night. lots of slick t spots through morning. heads up there. arctic front tomorrow.

's when the wind begins to pick up. look at this. 17, d.c. zero in buffalo. the windchill, 28 belowero in chicago. 50 below zero in minneapolis. the coldest i've seiver toden t below zero. incredible cold. even atlanta, 19 below zero. look at this, guys, once the winds rlly pick up, a wind advisory in effect from 9:00 a.m. to:00 p.m. tomorrow for just about everybody here, 20 to 30-mile-an-hourin. winds gusting to 50 miles an hour potentially. the highe winds could actually come with a little burst of snow as the arctic front comes through here. couldoa see a quickng if it does move through around 12:00, 1:00. then it reallyets cold. by tomorrow morning, windchills in the single digits everywhere. 11, d.c., but single digits back to the west. this is by 5:00, everybody.
