delay. amp est virginia, berkley, shire, jefferson. all of that information is at the bottom of your screen and in the nbc washington app. >> this morning, we also have team coverage of the storm and its impacts. teams are spreadcr outs the region monitoring road conditions near you. >>issa is standing by with your first 4 traffic but we begin with lauren rickets and look at all the cold temperatures, lauren. >> yeah. we havpe chilly ttures out there right now. we will continue to see some chilly temperatures as we go through theday. but look at these wind chills across the area. you can s some pretty drastic wind chims to the upper midwest. and those are continuing to sink down. now this piece of cold air ise going to coming our way as we go into the afternoon and evening. winds will start to pick up after about 8:00 p.m. tonight. again, we are looking at some very bitterly cd wind chills. we have wind advisories and wind chill advisories in place for this. now the current wind chill here in the d.c. areas at 24 right

news 4 adam tuss joins us live from vienna. adam? >> good morning, aaron. yeah, tak a look out the drive cam of the storm team 4 x 4 here, the road contions are in really good shape for the most part. now, it's going to be those side s, the secondary streets and the sidewalks and the parking lots that are going to be the reml pro this morning. honestly i think you'll have more of an issue j tt walki your car, maybe pulling into a convenience store, something along those lines. that's going to be the real problem spot for you to watch now.for this is 123 in the vienna area. you can see it's been treated. it's in good shape. we have a lot of salt on thend gr for the most part, road crews have done a good job. the temperatures are cold we'll drive around all through northern virginia checking out the road condions. you have a problem spot, i encourage you to tweet me and we'll come tak a loot it and see if we can get the road crews take care of it for you. guys, back into it. >> adam, thank you. our coverage of this latest

that's where ty found her. officers say she was dead and her son had blood and cuts on his hands. investigators have not released a possible motive in this case. developing this morning, investigators are looking for surveillance video in the possible hate crime against empire star jussie smollett. he was a walkingng a street early tuesday morning in chicago when two men attacked and beat him. they tied a noose around his neck and poured what's believe to be bleach on him. they yelled racist and homophobic slurs at smollett who he is reported to be in good condition. he went to the hospital on his own. >>h the super bowl just a few weeks away now, few days away now, it's this sunday, fans can expect security to beight in atlanta. >> today the nfl will join local law enforcement to outline its public safety plans for game-related activities. secretary of meland security kirstjen nielsen is also expected to attend.

welcome back. 4:13,t's a weather alert day here on news 4 today. icy conditions are what remain after a brief snowfall yesterday. today cold temperatures and strong wind gusts arexpected across the region. school delays and cancellations are in effectw.ight all that information can be found running at the bottom of your scrn and in the nbc washington app. temperatures will be below freezing for most of morning and because of that d.c. has activad a hypothermia alert. >> molette green has details on how the city isrying to help people stay warm. molette, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. you know the district only got a little teeny bit of snow,no so -- no ice issue here. it is the cold that is really the problem for those folks who have to go out ear this morning. and of course the weather, the temperatures are going to drop. that wind chill level that lauryn ricketts has been talking about going to sink deeper.

temperatures approaching 10 degrees below dozero. t know how they do it. i really don't. no injuries reported. god bless them. >> arctic blast brought snow to the carolinas too. it wasn't a big storm, many worry about the deep freeze that's coming. officials say the wintry mix will freeze when temperatures drop creating dangerous o conditio the roads there. areas around the mountains may see single digit temperatures. >> residents in up state new york are dealing with blankets of heavy snow. look at that.oa the may look bad now, but conditions are expected to worsen over the next couple days. approach otals cou an inch and a half per hour. some areas in buffalo could see more than twoeet of snow by the end of the week. now, i will say, buffalo is used to this, oright? eet of snow, no schools are closed. they haven't plowed and ready to go. >> absolutely. i was out here yesterday afternoon 4:30, 5:00 p.m. from a young woman from albany, s had on thin sweater, no hat. i'm in thenow like this. no big deal.

right now. and the sun coming up just about 15, 20 minutes after 7:00. temperatures will drop before then, but temperatures staying below that freezing mark through the morning. so anything that is not treated on the roadway is still going to freeze. especially your patios, sidewalks and stuff likethat. so be careful. by this afternoon,hose temperatures may get to around that freezing mark. withki winds p up after 8:00 a.m., it will feel a lot colder than that. we're becoming windy today. wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour today. nothing on the radar right now. again, we've got a little system that could bring some snow squalls to the area, but for the mo part, we are dry out there. wind advisory goes in eect at 9. 8 or 9:00hes the winds pick up. gusts up to 50 miles an hour as we continu through the day today. so it is going to get a little on the windy side. here take a look again a few snow squallspossible.
