concerned about. and i honestly didn't hit too many problems when i came in this morning,however, there's still some icy patches out there specially with temperaturesha below 32 degree mark. 24 is our temperature right now. so, isolated icy patches, especially those bridges, those erpasses, ramps,sidewalk, be careful. driveways. even going into parking lots that aren't treated. so again, be careful out there. it's becoming windy. that's going to be the today. winds are picking up after about 8, 90 a.m. could have a few passing snow showers later this afternoon. again, we' clear right now. we're looking at dry conditions through your morning. now, we do have win advisories in effect starting at 9:00 a.m. wind chill advisorie starting later on tonight. we'll talk about how cold it will et and how warm i get for the weekend coming up in a few minutes. let's talk to melissa. good morning. >> good morning, lauryn. talking about the main roads. they look grea 66 is a good example right now.

28 here near dulles airport, same situation. st looks slick. remember those bridges and overpasses always freeze first. and no doubt we' going to have issues with those as the morning commute rolls . 270 father hurley boulevard northbound, southbound no issues. just seeing some of that snow here in the grassy ar same situation, 15 before i-70 there in frederick. in springfield, outer loop of thebeltway, ramp to southbound 95 right side blocked by a crash, inn loop and outer loop of the beltway, no issues. eun? >> melissa, tha you. ro crews were out in parts of northern virginia ahead of this arctic bst treating allhe roads before they became icy. vdot officials were very clear that anything wet on the roads overnight will be ice this morning. so news 4 is on the roads right now checking out the conditions. >> news 4 adam tuss joins us reve now from the road. adam, where you and how sit looking? >> well, we are on fox mill road, aaron, in the okdon slash

vienna area. you can see that this road is ig reald shape. melissa was talking about the main roads. they are fine. this is a classic secondary road in northern virginia and the road crews have been out in force salting and getting it all down to really good pavement. but, i got to say there are some spots where it does change over, especially if you get off a road like thiso into a parking lot, sidewalks also going to be an hesue. i think biggest problem this morning likely will be you just getting to yourcar. that's going to be a big problem for you this morning just to make sure that you get your oting on the ground. but as you can see right now, roads like this, fox mill road, not in bad shape. gwe'reng to head up towards leesburg which got about three inches by someots last night. and we're going to see if we can find any other problem sps. ain f you see anything out on the road that you want me to one check out, contact me social media @adamtusz and i'll come find it for you. guys, back into you. >> all right, adam.

thank you. our team coverage continues tgw in mery county. >> news 4 justin finch is live in clarksburg now. justin, how is it going out there? >> reporter: hey there, good morning. i've been watchin the salt trucks come and go here on frederick road. it's looking pretty good. nice and cleary same sto for a lot of the main highways andain thorough fairs we've seen throughout the morning so far. if youus look jt foreman boulevard, you can see a salt yuck just passed through there, too. make your way across the street here, take a look there. that isid a salk underneath here off of frederick. it's still covered by snow. and youook over here at this parking lot here, it is still snow covered, too. this is an issue.he this is parking lot of clarksburg high school. you look at this scene and you see why schools in montgomery county are going to be opening two hours late, at least today and by 7:00 a.m. they could decide whether or not to close school all together. so lots of students, families,

this will be his first addresse during hisd term as governor. news 4 chris gordon will be there. it starts at noon in annapolis. we are working to learn more about a homicide investigation in hyattsville. this is video from that scene on hamilton street near 37th avenue. the city of hyattsville police tell us a man was found dead inside of this home. no word yet onhe suspect or how exactly that man died. actor and singer usesy smollett is recovering after a brutal attackn chicago. investigators are looking for rveillance video. the star of the show empire was walking early tuesday morning when two men attacked and beat him. they reportedly tied a noose around his neck and poured what's believed to be bleachn m. police say the attackers yelled racist andho homc slurs at smollett who is said to be gay. 4:37 and the caps will be back on the ice at the end of all-star as the nhl break comes to an end. >> no one seems to be enjoying

d.c. is a walking city. t people wal the bus stop. they walk to school. they walk to their jobs. you really hav to bundle up today. now, if you see some people, some o our homeless neighbors in trouble throughout the day, you can call 1 and get them a ride to a warming center. ng. but this just tells you everything. the united postal serv sending out this tweet saying they are suspending deliveries inin at least states due to this extreme cold. so now we want to give you a ve picture of chicago and what negative 16 degreesoo like. nowhere that we want to be. some places in these states, mostly in the midwest, though, could see wind chills as low as 60 below zero. of course, that's colder than parts of antarctica, alaska and even t north pole. that's way too dangerous for these workers making these deliveries. now governors in wisconsin, illinois, and michigan declared states of emergencies due to the extremely cold weather. back into you guys. >> tha is a sign. thank you. if the post office -- >> i'm shocked with that. that's crazy. >> they go through all kinds of weather. >> what is it, neither snow no rain nor gloom of night. nothing about crazy cold, though. >> they need to put that little clause ine, right? >> i can't blame them.

with wind chills that are historic here in the midwest. >> i don't blame them either. frostbite can hit a few minutes. >> even if your skin is not exposed, you'll get that i mean, especially through the midwest. now, here we're still going toi deal some very chilly conditions out there as well. so, nothing like we' seein for our friends in the midwest, but still our wind chill will drop below zero. now, ouremperature is staying below 32 degrees, which is a freezing mark. p of course we have to watch for icyches out there. we have adam tuss on the roadways. we have melissag trackhe traffic. listen, the main roads, thanks to the crews out there working throughout the overnight, dumping tons of salt the main roads aren't that bad, but of course the secondary roads, sidewalks, parking lots, adam tuss will get more into that. anything that looks wet could be black ice. the big story today, winds. absolutely. gusting up to 50 miles an hour. i do believe there could be some powe outages. of course that could be

problematic given the cold s p we'rving. we have a warmup coming our way as we head into this upcoming weekend. taook at these temperatures right now. the wind hasn't picked up yet and temperatures rige now in single digits in 20s. as you wake up this morning, those temperatures top out i o the mid 20s and we're going to top out today in the afternoon in the low 30s. now, we're dry right now. we could have a few snow squallr ng to make it through the area, so don't be shocked if you see a few light swew s out there today. not going to amount to much. 32 degrees will be our daytime high. becoming windy after 8:00 a.m. this wind aisory goes into effect after 9:00 a.m. gusts up to 50 miles an hour. the temperature and the wind chill will be falling toughout the day. taking a look again we could see a snow squall passing through the area as w head through the afternoon. not expecting any accumulation with that, but could reduce visibilities rather quickly. wind chill advisories in effect starting later on tonight and continue in through tomorrow morning. now your future wind chills, take a look at this as we go
