generation that is for parts of the midwest, for parts of icago. many people who have lived there have never, ever experienced. th for us it's more like 2014. five years ago we had somilhing very s to this with wind chills between 10 and 15 below 0. >> and especially tomorrow morning the schools could be impacted. so we could see wind chills as low as 15 below 0. >> look where we are. 9 degrees in d.c. right now. 9 degrees there is the wind ill. 24 below in cleveland. 141 below 0 in chicago. just the credible cold moving our way. you saw the arctic front with the clouds and snow that came through very, very quickly. we're seeing winds as wellhi this system. we have a wind advisory in effect through the day today. wind gusts up to 38 miles an hour in washington. up to 52 and right now comingn 32 in fredericks. so you know that makes it feel a

but doug mentioned people wearing shorts. as we were in reagan national airport you can tell a lot those people are coming in from south florida today and points that were much warmer. they essentially turned the baggage claim area io a changing room of sorts. they were opening up their suitcases to add more layers to prepare for this brutal cold. and it's not just the temperatures. as you mentioned it's the wind, too. they were bundled up, not aery pleasant situation as you wait for that next train. we were out here spending a few hours checking out the point and the approach for some of the aircraft as they were coming in. the strong gusts causing them to wobble a good amount. they could barely stay straight as they would go and touch down here at reaganational airport. some of those planes coming in from points further west, like minneapolis. they were dealing with wind chills that topped negative 50. we caught up with some of those ssengers. wh was it like just stepping

schools were closed. you guys know we had four sehools closed in d.c. it wasn't becauf the cold. it was because of the pes that burst because of the cold. and we could see that again. even two schools closed i montgomery county because of burst pipes. a very cold day for sure in 2014, and that's what we're expecting tomorrow morning. it does look like some of them are going to delay or close tomorrow vupt as a result of a frigid air coming in. wind at 26 miles per hour, but we've got gusts to 40 miles per hour making it feel even colder. these are the wind chills with the sustained winds, as i mentioned 25 miles an hour. 4 below in martinsberg. you add in these wind gusts close to 40 miles per hour. th includes d.c.'s wind chill rglow 0.

30 in fredericks and we have a wind advisory that continues -- there y go, arlington count apublic schools a tr delay. the wind is going to die down tomorrow morning, you're still going to have wind chill tomorrow morning but i think a two hour delay really helps. again, you are going to see some more delays i think and maybe even some closures. lasted about 20 minutes or so, o some of that on the heavier side especially north of d.c. that's the front. oncet came through, temperatures dropped quickly. 10 degree temperature drop in just a couple of minutes. cleveland at 24 below 0. buffalo at 23. blizzard warnings up around the buffalo area. some incredible cold. winter advisory in effect from 9:00 tonight until 10:00 a.m. for everyone around the region.

seeing less cold. >> a dramatic scene outside of the willard intercontinental hotel this afternoon. a bloomberg photographer shared this video with us. a pair of protesters rushed members ofhe chinese trade delegation. and this isn't the only incident today involving these protesters. cory smith has the very latest for us. cory? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, pat. not the only incident that happened. the first one here at the willard intercontinental. you had a delegationf chithese tra cainese trade negotiators when they were practiy rushed by protesters. you can see that chinese delegate walk out of the hotel a and then of a sudden chaos. a handful of protesters are rushing. ultimately surrounded by members of the secret service and other law enforcement agents. a woman iultimately thrown t the ground.

severe. that's what we know. we'll send it t back you in the studio. now let's turn to ary s that's dominating social media and rocking hollywood. the alleged racially motivated attack on empire star jussie smollett. ere's a lot of misinformation out there swirling around this story. now, let's go through the facts as we kno them at this point. smollett who is openly gay tells chicago police two masked men yelled racial and slurs on him, doused him with some kind of chemical and put noose around his neck. today they confirmed there is surveillance video of smollett at the subway restaurant he went to, but they haven't found video of t attack itself and haven't entified any suspects. smollett right now is out of the hospital and we understand he's
